Ousainou Darboe is the most obvious choice! for the 2006 election who can win Yaya,But for one thing i am sure if O.j is the choice of Nadd because of Lamin Waa Juwara´s persoinal reasons.then i will ask any member of my family ,friend´s and out entire village to vote for yaya because O.j is another jawara.
Ps
But if NADD but another one who is not O.J,or Juwara then i will ask my people to vote for NADD.

You need to concentrate on the BIG picture, not internal politics.
To improve the Gambia you need to vote the tyrant out. SIMPLE AS!

I would have thought whoever is selected to lead would work closely together with other executive members and decision making would be based on concensus not just a one man band. why don't we all get behind them and support and accept their decisions. to me that would be a healthy democracy

He! my brother thanks for youe reply to my message about the 2006 election. You say i am a tribalistic, you might right but only if you know the diffrence between triblistic and triblaism. Any relaistic Gambian will agree with me that for Omara a jallow or Wa-Juwara to stand with yaya will be, as gievn more vots to yaya then he has eve had before and even the fomar Jawara will has never had.
Justic you have a lot of chances know a days why not used it wisely, meaning the ability to make good judgements based on a deep understanding and experince of life.If you know the History of PPP then i think you will agree that O.J is not a good choise for NADD,no Juwara is either, they all have history that you may not know.Juwara was a comminsoner in wested division, MId, and not bank division, you should try to find out what he did during thos time.
About O J i know himbeter then you and he even did something very good for that he has not done for you and he will never do it for you.But i know he is not good to be trusted in that office, reality is that the situation is not as who you see it but how you did not see it.
PS
the meaning of Tribalism is tthe state of existing as a tribe or a very strong feelings of loyalty to your tribe, and i do have avery strong feeling about my tribe and i hope you too have the same for your trible but it is not the essue here.i speak Fula,Wolof, and i have mroe feiends in this two tribes then my own tribe,i know many Gambian politicans then you do not only their names but many thing persionaly. If we want a better Gamiba, we have to deal with the reality and that is mejority.
if you can tell me one politican in the Gambia that has not bean save by Ousain Darbo for the past 30 years i will will be glad, but today they are all against him because of bean a Mandinka.and i will be glad if you or any one can tell me O.j´s eduactional back ground and Halifa compeair them with darbo. You know the english man said an emty barral make more noice then full one let us not fool our shelf about what is going on in NADD and face the truth,In NADD today it is Hamat bah or Darbo, that gambians know the rest are just Banjul and serrekunda and that is not enough to wine yaya.
i am sorry if i say anything that may hurt you i did not mean it all i want is do not jump and judge people because of what they write.you need to learn a lot in life still.take care

Jammeh don't mind that guy. People fail to tell the truth. We have seen tribalism been played during the nomination. Why were the fulas supporting OJ when Darboe, Hamat and Halifa are more competent than OJ. We don't need PPP back and no socialism system in Gambia. What educational background does OJ have. What makes Oj competent than any of the above. On the side of PDOIS also Amie and Sarr to me played tribalism in nominating Halifa because they are all Wollof. How can Amie and Sarr nominate Halifa when their party's leader Sedia is there, who contests on presidential elections. For Juwara, his party has no agenda and he bad feelings against Darboe. I never like his politics. NDAM is one man party that's the reason he have his party's headoffice at his compound. Darboe is the most likely person who can unseat Jammeh. He has stood for the country's liberation from Jammeh. All kind of harassment, intimidations were mited on his party militants during the crucial time of our country's political climate. Lets voice out the truth. UDP is not a tirbalist party, single Nyass, Femi Peters and others are non Mandinka's and they are members of the executive committee of UDP. I am saying this statement again, WITHOUT UDP NO NADD. Lets wait and see. combination of PPP and PDOIS can't pull even 15% in the election. Anyone who against that lets wait and see come 2006 election. Someone was also saying that Darboe stood for two occasion and failed. Yes I agree to that but remember also, Abdoulie wade contested on many occasion but today he is a president. Darboe for president.
Long live UDP
Long live NRP

This is a reply to both Babolade and Ebra. You both need to check up and re-examine your facts properly. Babolade needs to explain the difference between tribalistic and tribalism. Doesn’t tribalistic describe adherence and practice of tribalism? Tribalistic is an adjective to tribalism. Sadly, tribalism has become the scourge of black African politics.
Ever since the departures of Nkrumah, Lumumba and Sankara from the black African political scene, politics in black Africa has graduated into bogus and a laughing stock to the rest of the world.
Be advised to read again and again AbeCham’s reply above. OJ can’t head a coalition government and rule at whim. OJ is not supposed to decide alone in the event NADD ousts the APRC from power.
In Gambian politics, it shouldn’t be difficult to fathom that the mandinka tribe alone is not a majority against the rest of the Gambian tribes together.
If president Jammeh could metamorphose from soldier to president over night, where would that leave OJ? OJ entered politics as a youth and has wide experiences of African politics packed in his luggage.
It’s time for us all Gambians to struggle out of the tribal political quagmire we are stocked in and start viewing politics from a holistic perspective.

Well brother Jammeh(mbaading),
Don't ask your family to vote 4 Yaya Jammeh .This is what we are all trying to erradicate and thats what you have accused the former PPP of.....Imposing your will on others(Dictatorship)I know your temper is hot and you did'not mean to say this but only out of frustration, but OJ/Juwara arte Gambians like yourself and have right under our constitution to vote and be voted for. No body has the right to condem them. You only cannot vote them but once you compel your people to vote against them, then they become better than you because they have to put their agenda b4 the people and let the people choose. What about if one or two of your relatives agree with their agenda and wish to vote 4 them?Who are you to divert that very good democratic principle by asking them not to choose 4 themselves?
Please Gambia needs broad thinkers and I believe you want to be part of the group of enlightening the masses of Gambian who go on this website to learn.
If you were to weigh the first republic and the second republic, which one would you prefer(They might all not be good under your eyes but choose the better one)?
Secondly Mbaading do't worry when you are called tribalist...Tribalism is practice every where in the world. Those critisicing you didn't know what tribalism means. So don't be hurt if anyone call you a tribalist. It is very good to be tribalist ,because Tribalism leads to nationalism.Let them read history. It has always been practice and even ALL MIGHTY GOD SAID HE HAS CREATED US IN TO GROUPS AND TRIBES SO THAT WE CAN KNOW EACH OTHER. Who does not love what you are?
Let me ask some questions Who would want Senegal to invade the Gambia?
If no body why not? as Senegal is economically stable,Gambia might gain from being part of her, but every Gambian would rather die than see that happen...Why? ....NATIONALISM.
If also in the Gambia, President Jammeh took lamin Darboe of example jarra Badume to be the Alkalo of Fulladu sankulay kunda,No body from sankulay kunda would agree likewise if Omar njie was to be taken from kuntaya in Jokadu to go to fatako in Jimara as Alkalo, all the citizens of Fatako would disagree. Is that not tribalism?after all Lamin darboe and Omar Njie are both Gambians and have rights to settle in any village or town within the Gambia.
Look let a black type, Asian type or Arab type, born in Europe or America, try to become president any European country or America and prime minister of UK. see whether you will win?No chance is these all not tribalism.
Tribalism can be described in somany ways.So don't worry.I want people to call me tribalist/Nationalist world freedom fighter

Sorry fellas,
I think one has to be very careful when posting. This bantaba is visited by many people. i know some of those people who read postings here don't post themselves. Its disturbing to see how people slam one another with accusations of tribalism at this bantaba. I am a Gambian like any of you guys out there. My tribe? "Gambian!!!". There is one thing we all have in common and that is our nationality. the best quality we can display as Gambians to the readers is that we are united come rain and thunder.
We all have our opinions about the various political leaders but i don't think we have to make judgements based on their tribal backgrounds. we have to judge them based on their merits. i am personally angry with Darboe, but i always make sure i put forward my complaints about him base on his political merits and not his tribe. i can see when there is a posting about racism we encounter here in the West, there is always a rapid and enormous amount of response we get to those postings. but we are forgetting that tribalism itself is another form of racism. triblism is the only bottleneck to our unity. and believe me, unless we can break those tribal barriers, we will be enemies within our own country. tribalism has hindered our development enormously because each tribe is a nation of its own. as a result, we have many nations existing in the Gambia. for the Gambia to go forward, these nations of tribes must come together to fight for a common good. please brothers and sisters, lets judge each other based on our intellectual merits but not on our tribal backgrounds.

Correct advice indeed.

The cancer called tribalism MUST be erased from our brains.

The only tribe is the human tribe, noting but.

The whole world is being poisoned by intolerance and narrowmindedness.

Please correct me if I am wrong...
It is obvious to me that recent politics in Gambia has helped a great deal to promote tribalism. If a leader from a certain tribe gives his homevillage and other things clear advantages, the other parts will start to feel angry.
And an extended family should not benefit from the wealth that is supposed to be for the country. But these are factors that don't just affect Gambia.
It is only normal to doubt and question prospect leaders, but the main issue should not be ignored that the leadership has to change no matter what.
Could it actually get worse?
The Gambian people have a sense of togetherness that hopefully is unbreakable

The tribalist mess is not a recent infeection but rather highlighted during political campaigns when the selffish individuals who have no progressive development program always adopt (opportunistically) the easiest means of using our people for their own benefits.

With exanples like Houphet of Ivory Coast and his Yamousoukro and our own Yahya Jammeh and his Kanilai, I would like to challenge any Gambian who can vow and tell me that the people who inherited the language and cultural traditions called Jola have benefited more than any other Gambian. Hell no!!!

Up to the 80's, this region of the Gambia which is inhabited by people who speak Mandingka, Jola, Fula, Wolof, Balanta, Manjago, Pepel, Baynunka among other langauages and live their live as decent and loving human beings and not aliens from another planet or donkeys in the bush.

The inhabitants of this region were well known for hard word and the cultivation of rice. Today, most of the rice eaten in Foni come from abroad and Brika as it's transit station. Those who suffer from this regression speak all langauges and perform various cultural rituals as human beings. So Yahya speaking a particular language (by the way, he speaks, wolof, mandinka, aku and english) those not mean that other people speaking the same langauage benefit more than others.

If you visit Kanilai today, you would remark that most of it's inhabitants live in poor houses and Yahya is living in a mansion. What a shame!!!

So my dear sisters and brothers, The Gambia is ours and we are all human being that should not alow any individualist to use us any more through the lamguage we speake or the cultural rites we perform so that they will continue to divide us inorder to live better lives than us.

Niether Yahya, Darboe, Halifa, Hamat, O j, Sidia, Waa Juwara are more human than we are.

They present themselves as people who want to lead us for a better living condition and it is up to us to asses what they preach and agree with the group among them that we think offer a bett program which includes our full participation in decission making beacuse without our personal influence in natters concerning of progress, we are just slaves to whoever wants to lead us.

We need to be mentally free from all reactionary ideas.

Oh Brother Briango,
May God bless you.You see we should try not to even talk about tribe in this issues.
I only reply to some coments because I cannot leave them unanswered. It burns inside me.Some peopleneeds enlightenment b4 they write on this forum. We Gambians irrespective of our tribal background and pollitical differences, should advocate 4 the Gambia to be the best country in the world.Remember:
ONLY OUR DEAR GAMBIA IS CALLED WORLD AS THE SMILLING COAST.
So if we write on a widely read web and castigate each other about being tribalist,
How do we expect the rest of the world to see us.I keep saying All politicians are hypocretes:
Infact you've proven me right.
(1)When Jawara was at the helms,His villagers(At Barajally) were poor and remained so until he was out.
(2)Jammeh came:Despite his EXECUTIVE MANSION at Kanilai WOANIE.Infact He is not inside Kanilai,He lives outside the village at Woanie)while his villagers live in extreme poverty.
Whether it was Jammeh who tried to inject tribalism feelings into the people or whether it is true the mandinka or jolas or wollofs ect are tribalist,is not important.
What we need is a united Gambia with all her tribes living side by side and intermarrying each other so that we multiply in to diverse, inteligent people.
Any one who acuse any of tribalism is himself tribalist and every body is.
The point is accept your neighbour as your self, 4 when problems attacks you ,He will be there b4 distant members family comes to your aid.Recognise every Gambian of having equal rights as you and treat all human as you would want to be treated.
This is the way forward.
Peace and love
God bless HIS Gambia.
Makajang Janyanfara.

BornAfrican:

It is disturbing when people talk about our so-called togetherness. We Gambians live in denial. A few years ago, if someone tells me that there be such a great number of armed robberies in the Gambia, i won't agree. A few years ago, if someone told me that the level of homicide in the Gambia will get to its current level, i won't agree. A few years ago, if anyone told me that the Armed forces of the Gambia will dehumanize their Gambian brothers and sisters, i won't agree. These are the things we are all seeing in the Gambia today. Tribalism is gnawing on the core of our unity day-by-day. Let Gambians stop living in denial and face the current realities on the Ground. What is happening in the Gambia is no nuclear science. Its as elementary as ABC. You only need to see it and know what its all about. I normally hear people saying that the Gambia is a muslim country and that we have so much prayers, trouble cannot befall us. God forbid such situations but we are being very ignorant and selfish for saying those kind of things. What is happening in Iraq today? Is it not in Iraq where people are dying everyday? But has Iraq not got closer historic ties to the holy prophet of Islam than the Gambia? Please, let us all stop being naive. There is nothing such as unity in the Gambia at the moment. There is something called individualism which is a product of tribalism. Let us wake up and stop this cancer from spreading before its too late. PLEASE BROTHERS AND SISTERS, LET US JUDGE ONE ANOTHER BASED ON OUR POLITICAL, INTELECTUAL, OR INDIVIDUAL DOINGS. Not based on which tribes we come from.

I agree with you 100%. ALL Gambians shoudl have equal rights and ALL Gambians should treat each other as they would wish to be treated. 2 very simple principles........but if they guide your politicians then the country will improve.

You see my dear,
we in the Gambia or Gambians outside, all want the best 4 the Gambia. We just have different agendas and some agendas don't seem to work.So the way out of the mess 4 them is to try and put our heads together by accusing one tribe against the other.I had never heard of tribalism(Despite all tribes ,each loved and practice their culture peacefully...which I want to believe is the tribalism I know,)until now I begin to sniffed the smell what others meant about tribalism. My dear we in the Gambia have been and are still inter marrying each other despite our tribal differences. In my tribe,we have Mandingoes, fulas,Jalas wollofs, manjakos, bambaras)the only tribe(major one)not in my family are the sarrahules but who knows one of my cousins or brothers' sons or daughters might marry a sarrahule.
Oh my God ...God bless me I think am growing old?Yes we have a sarrahule in our family.I can remember now but that was resent that why I neally forgot.
Gambians APRC,NADD,UDP/NRP,GPDP,all want to put the Gambia forward but who can best do it?
Well APRC tried 4 over 10 years and failed miserably....
Now we should try one othe the others I think...this is what you English teach us to be Democracy...
But APRC has already injected a wide spread disease into the minds of the minority tribes.....Tribalism....... Unless that disease is cured....They will keep enjoying ...while all suffer regardless of your tribe .Both the minority tribe who they claimed to protect by injecting the disease of tribalism into and the mandingoes who they accuse of practicing tribalism against the minority will suffer together.
"When the house catches fire, the bed-bud never exchapes"
WE GOT TO PUT THE ISSUE OF TRIBALISM BEHIND US AND FIGHT 4 OUR DEAR MOTHER...THE GAMBIA...
look a woman may have two or more childreen but they are not all alike in every thing...some are this and some are that..That is creation..But they all have one Mother....As we both have ONE MOTHER ...The GAMBIA.
Peace and love,
Mankajang Janyanfara.x
