I am interested to hear more about this. A muslim friend of mine also told me that Brikama has some extremism that is nottrue of the rest of Gambia.
i'm sure Kodorong can give you more info. most people in Brikama are originally from places like Yoro Bawol.
Yoro Bawol is far from Brikama and people from Yoro Bawol are peace loving. They just need electricity as promised by Yanks. |

PAGE 3 should be banned!!! Sexist rubbish!!!
How would you feel if a woman was sat on a bus looking at a newspaper with a man naked on page 3?!
Ok if you want to buy a top shelf magazine to 'read' at home, that is up to you. But NOT in public PLEASE!
Nudity for sexual titilation has no place in daily newspapers.
Remember these girls doing this job are somebodies daughter! Would you want your daughter to do that for a living?! If not then dont buy the papers! |

'Reading' is not exactly what most men are doing with the sun! The reading age you need for that paper is around 8 years old!
I only buy a paper at the weekend. I buy the 'Wetherby News' (there isnt much news created around here!) It keeps me in touch with what is happening locally. I also buy either the express or the mail (Not for the politics ,LOL!) but for the magazine and tv guide.
I get my news from the BBC and various online sites.

There should be a dress code as priscribed in our do!s and dont information material. The guides , taxidrivers and other persons intracting with tourist have to educate the tourist on this issue . Lately the dress code of our own people especially the girls is a disgrace to our society. As a result , i strongly belive that we cannot have one law for the tourist and another for Gambians . We need to work hard on this issue in educating both our people and tourist alike. Chi Jamma , Bro Sheikh |

Tijan, lately when I was in Gambia I discussed this topic with a young man who is not at all a bigot, but just respectful. We agreed that sometimes young Gambian women dress up like prostitutes, and when they meet tourists, this can lead to fatal misunderstandings. He told me that many Europeans share my view and mistake normal girls for prostitutes. It seems as if these girls are still not familiar with the Western style and its subtle dress codes.
I see that two extremes are tearing at Gambia's women in these days: The Islamists want to make women look like nuns or even like ghosts, the 'western' style gives them a prostitute-like appearance. A sad thing - how could the Gambian woman, who looks like a queen in her traditional dress, get into this nonsense?! To our 'gourmets', Lemon Time and Jack: Not all women who have a nice body feel the need to show it to every i***t (I don't mean you), nor do they want these i***ts to pass their stupid comments on it.
I always thought I am not everybody's visual property. It is a matter of self respect. Most of the girls on these 'page 3' photos are from poor, uneducated families and never learned to respect themselves (which is not their fault). They are used for a while, and then thrown away. You like this? |

as for a man wearing shorting outside the hotel, travell shorts definately, beach shorts no, bath topless on the beach in a muslim country no. I agree with babylon that the african dress for men and women is fabuous and should be worn all the time. when you see the young girls and boys near the tourist areas in western clothes they never get it right the girls look like something else, sex or hustlers. the boys in baggy clothes, hats and shoes look like trouble makers. for some tourists they will judge people by what they see. Even the locals do not like it. |

Yep... and then we have those women who donīt have nice bodies at all and still likes to show them off to any desperate fool who wants to see. Speaking of no self respect... |
