njucks, the UTG web site states that WASSCE results are required for admission. However, I understand that WASSCE is not popular among Gambian high school students. I'm particularly interested in knowing if any specific level of English proficiency is required for admission.

Ranga, who made you to understand this belief!! its not true as high school students have no choice but this terminal exam and all look forward to it with great enthusiasm.poverty and costs could be a deterrent as education in The Gambia is not free yet.
English is the offical language of the country instructed in schools from nursery to WASSCE (or whatever its called now). It was A-levels and O-levels before.
therefore I dont see what you mean by level of proficiency or simply I dont understand your question. within the Commonwealth students are not required to obtain levels of english proficiency as a 'key' requirement for admission to universities.
its different from the USA where english exams like SAT, TOEFL, ELS, GRE etc are required. If you are from a country whether English is not a language of instruction in school then you have to show your level of proficiency to obtain admission.this is not the case in my country.
i hope i have made you to understand differently.

The UTG web site states: "Minimum requirements are WASSC with passes at credit level in 5 subjects".
I guess that still leaves us with 530 (25 + 66 + 71 + 158 + 210) students who could get into UTG this year.

i think you asked me before in another thread. anyway the last i knew it was about D14,000 for the normal BSc programmes. i think medicine would be a bit higher. but this information might not be correct as now they have grants, loans, free scholarships etc
you can call them directly i think its more helpful. |
