KANUMA APPEALS FOR ASSISTANCE
By Bubacarr K. Sowe

Villagers at Kanuma, in Lower Niumi have appealed to government, non-governmental organizations and philanthropists to assist the village complete a building meant for a poultry farm.
The Alkalo, Momodou Manneh, said that the project started since April this year through the help of Campaign Against Rural-Urban Drift (CARUD) but has halted due to lack of funds.

He estimated that an amount of D25, 000 dalasis would be needed to purchase building materials which include corrugated iron sheets, nails, wire maze timber and cement.
Mr. Manneh indicated that if the poultry is established, it will help the village in providing employment and food sufficiency.

The Programme Director of CARUD, Mustapha Fatty, who initiated the programme, said that his organisation can no longer handle the funding alone though they are financially independent.
He emphasized that if youths in the rural areas are equipped with adequate resources, they will be more productive.

Chief Tabora Manneh of Lower Niumi said that he will always appeal on behalf of the villagers for funding and resources, adding that it is only through empowerment that the rural folk will be able to develop.
