TEACHERS RAISE CONCERN OVER DOUBLE SHIFT
By Modou Jonga

Teachers who spoke to this reporter have described the double shift regulation circular which was passed to all schools as a poor administrative measure.

The double shift regulation circular indicates that in each school in the country teachers on double shift should not exceed six.
I have been reliably informed that in Region 5 the arrival of the cluster monitor led to the deletion of names of two teachers from list of staff on double shift in the school. My source also indicated that the cluster monitor should be stationed in a school but in Region 5 this cluster monitor preferred to be stationed at the Regional Education Office of Region Five (5), which according to concerned teachers is leading to the surfacing of an unconducive atmosphere for teacher on double shift.

When contacted, the Director of region (5) five declined to comment on the issue. Efforts by this reporter to talk to the Permanent Secretary, proved futile. However, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Kunkung Jobarteh, was contacted to shed light on the issue, but the later also vehemently declined to comment, insisting that this reporter must, as a necessity revealed his source of information and eventually rang off the phone.

Is it reasonable to assume that the limitation of number of teachers is a means to lower expenses for the school? Has the budget been lowered perhaps?

LEMON TIME, I cannot agree with you more. The good news is that any student well enough not to go hungry can bootstrap herself. The world of knowledge is open to those who are interested. Everyone gets 24 hours. Access to the entire world of knowledge is becoming cheaper by the year, thanks to the Internet.
