I would like to know the final verdict on the announcement of discovery of oil in the Gambia in 2004.Jammeh seemed to have been confident at that point,saying it was an answer to republic's levels of poverty.

Che, the Gambian oil seems to be a very mysterious material. It appears and disappears, then reappears... just like high and low tide...

Lately I heard that the offshore oilfield which seemed to be Gambian is actually on Senegal's territory. But this may be just another rumour.

I've read recently some scientific rapports that confirms there is oil offshore but the cost to drill it is probably too high (for the moment)

and Serenata, yes indeed, the oil field is partly before the coast of Gambia, but for a biggest part before the coast of Senegal.... troubles ???

Try to find that rapport back because there was an estimation about the amount of oil.

Lemon,
I would only belive it if they start drilling. The British have tried and even had some drilling by Yundum in the late 50s and early 60s but found nothing. I belive they have been making prospects during their time. I find it just difficult to belive. Other than palm oil and palm kernel oil and ofcause groundnut oil. I just wait and see . When shall the drilling start?

The canadians and Chinese also did explorations in the past. The chinese conducted extensive geological surveys through ou the country.
