Jankey Congratulations on your progress so far. We started a school in The Gambia 4 years ago, it was incredibly frustrating at first dealing with the Gambian civil servants but very rewarding in the end. We started with 30 children in a rented building and now have 180 in a brand new school. Our web site is www.dmf.dsl.pipex.com email me if you think we can help with advive etc. Mick |

Hi Mick, The web site looks great. I do need advice on how to get a web up and running and also do you have to register the charity in Gambia if so how do I go about doing this? Where do I need to go etc. Any advice would be very very welcome |

Hello Mick Also like the look of your web site. Have just set up a charity too and wonder if you can tell me how the gift aid works. Is it as simple as it looks? Thanks |

| Its pretty easy once you have got everything in place. Check out the Inland Revenue site http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/gift-aid.htm that will give you all the info you need. I put in a claim every few months (depending on how much money we have been given) and they pay the money into the charities account within a couple of weeks usually. You will need to keep very detailed records of all money donated and who by and you need to get everyone paying you money to sign a gift aid declaration (you can download an example of ours from our web site). Hope this helps. |

Hi Guys Thanks for the support, I really need it at the moment. I am wanting to go to gambia to start getting things up and running but it seems that it will be impossible at the moment. I am getting so frustrated at not been able to do something and get the kids to school.
Any ideas on staying sane |

Hi Guys Long time since I updated you all on my charity. We are now registered in Gambia and have our trustees in Kiang. We are waiting for our trustees to obtain prices on the desks and chairs that we want to buy. We did get a quote , but lets just say it was "unbelievable". What I dont want is for people to try to take advantage of us as this is for the kids to have a better chance in life and it puts me off trying to help. |
