The poem below is a prediction of the forthcoming presidential elections in the Gambia. In it, I tried to relay the many ways that the voting process will happen. The Wolf with his gun men are not going let the votes to count as they were thrown in the ballots. The world observers will do nothing, but engage in mere hypocrisy. The respected Fox is a living hero, a genius of our time.
The day of Counting: A political Poem
Democracy patterns Stones in millions One thrown after the order.
The long lines of Gambians in white shirts We spotted some non-Gambians in black Some hiding their faces and others confident.
Next to the lines, we saw the gun men The soldiers of the angry wolf They are poisoned with a command to hurt or kill.
The judges asking for voter’s card They wetted many hands with blue ink Finally, each is given a little stone.
In and out of the little house Where the ballots are placed Kan, Kan, duk- the sounds of the ballots.
The sieve is the counter One full is 10,000 votes for the wolf Another full is 7,000 votes for the fox.
Before hand, mass buying of stones by the wolf One bag of rice for a poor farmer Get a whole family’s 25 votes.
The fox though, a living miracle African’s handsome prince Teacher of the blind and deaf.
The screen men shouted Some commercials while results are being wrongly tallied During the screen play, the gun men ordered destiny changed.
Counting is over, now fox still won The wolf ordered the gun men to change destiny Blood, tears and sweat running down non-stop.
The world vultures still hypocrites They talk like angels And they are stupid human beings.
How long do we have to go compatriots? This is a rough journey Please vote for the fox.
Weeeee fox come September 2006!
