The Geoseed Project is a Silicon Valley non-profit organization that stimulates the desire for learning in children. We provide a free teaching tool directly to dedicated teachers in Africa.
We believe that any million people have equivalent genetic endowment and potential for prosperity. Widespread education is the key to unlock that potential. Everyone is born with 100 billion neurons and 24 hours a day. Education is quite accessible to those that desire it. Prosperity is inevitable with widespread education. Africans will bring prosperity to themselves in two generations. Our role is to be a helpful catalyst to speed up the process.
We have therefore made it our mission to stimulate the desire for learning in children, the next generation of citizens. We provide attractive educational materials to young children. We mail Geopacks, a set of 12 recent issues of the educational, prestigious and colorful National Geographic Magazine (http://www.ngm.com) to dedicated teachers around the world. We are fortunate to have served over 40,000 children around the world to date. Our current focus is on girls education in rural Gambia, up the river.
We seek your help to reach dedicated teachers in Gambia (or rural Africa for that matter) for our free service.

Ranga like this, education is important. If you sponsor a child in secondary school senior age 16-18 years it is 2400-3000 dls a years not sure of your exchange rate. This is for government schools. If you want to pay in us dollars it can be 70 dls a year upto 150 dls for the private schools. If possible try to reach Kaur, Farafenni, Janjanbureh, Nuimi, Essau, Basse or Soma these are up country towns that would appreciate help and I guarantee it would not be wasted. They schooling in Gambia is free for the girl child upto junior secondary age 12, but you still have to pay for uniforms and school funds. If you are sending national geopgraphic magazines why have you targetted girls schools only. surely this magazines is for all people. Good luck let me know if you need more info.

jambo, thank you again for your support.
You are correct. We focus on girls' education, since it provides much higher benefit to society over the years. See http://www.savethechildren.org/mothers/report_2005/ for excellent summary. While we focus on girls' education, we'll happily serve boys as well as girls. |

A number of readers of the Bantaba have expressed an interest in recommending dedicated teachers to us. Here is a short note on how to request a Geopack from us:
The Geoseed Project sends a free Geopack by post to dedicated teachers. A Geopack consists of the following:
1. A set of 12 recent issues of the National Geographic Magazine 2. A map from the National Geographic Magazine, suitable for class use
To request a Geopack, please recommend dedicated teachers by emailing us (at catalyst@geoseedproject.com ) the following information:
1. Teacher's full name : Mr/Ms ... 2. School postal address : 3. Number of children likely to benefit : (your estimate) 4. Context : (a few sentences on teacher, students, school & community)
We prefer one email per teacher. In order to reach many students, we limit our service to one Geopack per school at this time.

Ranga do you have linkages with National Geographic. It might help the Gambia if National Geographic decided to do a story on the Gambia. There would be so many fascinating angles to take if there is a photographer/journalist out there .... for positive focus on the people. |

Newfy, at this time I don't have strong enough links to encourage National Geographic to do a story on The Gambia. In due course of course!
We are working with Peace Corps in The Gambia though.
