Lemon Time,
I hope you read between my lines properly. This project has nothing to do with Gambia government. The people involved have other objectives than you. I am suprised that you have an inferior complex. Gambian cultur does not belong to an individual person. Those engaged in this project see the importance of building bridges between cultures. You can continue to hide and write what ever nonsense you want, but the project is going on. Remember, people like you have no idea what culture is. Otherwise you would not have written such a statement. This is culture not politics. Do not be jelous of people trying to do what you dont regard as important.
You should be realy ashamed of your ill taughts. I suggest if you cannot contribute possitively, then jalikunda doesn't need your unfounded comments. I am not suprised of your comments. No wonder.
Let the dogs bark but the caravan must pass.

LEMON TIME,
Your jelousey will give you heart attack. You are jus a jester who dosen't have a master. You are the right person to dance to the tunes of Jammeh. Here we have nothing to do with things you mention.
You are so ignorant of your culture that you need to cultural oriention. You are in the Gambia, so learn more of your culture. This will make you progressive and give you some cultural education.
Half education is dengerous. Go back to school and lears manners.
I am not suprised that you accuse people who have culture.
You are accusing people of what you do and what you are.

Jambo,
It is difficult to know who is who on this forum. People are so false that they hide in all sorts of names. Honesty does not prevail on this forum as long as people hide their identeties. I have no reason to do so. I am not afraid of any humanbeing, but only God.
The other reason is that many unprogressive Gambians do say I am not a mandinka why should I listen to kora music. In Stockholm as I know about things like this happpen. There are even organisations that are based on language groups. This is the most backward. We still dont see eachother as equals. We have complex towards oneanother, but at the end of the day we are all seen the same by Europeans, Asians and Americans.

Newfy, go buy 'In the heart of the moon' - with the late Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabate - recorded in Bamako/2004, close your eyes & you'll be there!
regards,

Sab,
I see that you realy like African classical music. That was a good move. There is a book I would recomend" The oral University" writren by Jali Alhaji M'bye. He is a the Uncle of Jaliba Kuyateh and runs a school of music in Soma and Nema Nasir. The best of JARABI is also good. Otherwise soon is Tatas new CD out. I shall give you the info.
We even had Bo Kunta Ndiayé here for some weeks ago. He is a a master of ngoni(xalam.
African classical music is realy breakingthrough in the international market. "TAKI SAABA" is another recording of Solo and Ellika that we have sold many copies to people who help those who have difficulties in sleeping. The kora and ngoni are medecine for our souls.
Back to the roots.

Babylon, it is true. singers following the traditional line are being increasingly recognised. i know for a fact this is very popular in France/UK/N.America. for example the guitarist Ali Farka Toure won two Grammy Awards both with the Kora player Toumani Jorbateh (2005) and with Ry Cooper previously for his album Talking Timbucktu. unfortunately he died this March. his music is fantastic. you should listen to it. other famous singers are Baaba Maal etc

the music is normally marketed under the genre World Music in music stores.if you are interested you will find it.

Alhassan is right.
