-war powers:power to declare to war. -foreign affairs:power to enter into foreign relations and contracts. COMMENTS: IT WILL BE NICE THOUGH IF THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT HAVE A BLANK CHECK IN MAKING APPOINTMENTS. HIS APPOINTMENTS SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO LEGISLATIVE DEBATE AND APPROVAL.

Some were but never adhered to. For example the dismissal of Hassan Jallow requires concurrence of the Asssembly. |

Unfortunately Janyanfara, African presidents are too powerful. In the case of The Gambia, Yaya Jammeh acts like a demi-god. He determines (or thinks he does)life and death. He is chief judge, head economist, the imam, the eminent scholar, the head priest,etc.,etc. He is ALL. Hence, the government and the people succumb to his will. The powers that you outlined here are just a subset of the president's power. The powers outlined in the constitution are a joke to Yaya. He has usurped absolute power. You see, we have a big problem in The Gambia and Africa at large. Our leaders are too powerful. God help us! |

Hi bro njucks, Thanks anyway but I have cupies of both the first and the second constitution.
I just want to refer you to your sec.193(1) of the draft. That had been changed.Instaead of elected,it is now selected..
But any way many could benefit from it as most Gambians have no access to the constitution. Thus many don't know their rights as citizens.
Thanks for that masterpiece. Janyanfara |
