Imam Baba Leigh, 4 other Human Rights Defenders Awarded

The Pan African Human Rights Defenders Network, yesterday, 22 October, 2013 awarded 5 African Human Rights Defenders, including Imam Baba Leigh, at an evening cocktail award held at the Kairaba Beach Hotel. The other awardees are Paulete Oyane Onda from Gabon, Livingstone Sewanyana from the Eastern Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders, Uganda, Yara Sallam of Egypt and Maria Lucia Inacio da Silveira from Angola. The Africa Human Rights Defenders Award, which is the first of its kind being organised, also witnessed the celebration of the 15 years of the African UN Declaration on Human Rights. The award, according to organizers, is meant to recognise the work of African Human Rights Defenders. Dr. Isatou Touray, the Executive Director of Gamcotrap, in the company of the family of the Imam received an award on behalf of Imam Baba Leigh who has travelled to the US for medical check-up.....
