Great, super idea,BUT until the countries of the African continent are united on all aspects and common rules that they wish their representative to take his/her seat on the council such a representative cannot be creditable, such unity will take a very considerable time to achieve.(my opinion only ! ) Think about it. |

Toubab, the whole institution needs to be overhauled. Not only Africa but South America needs a permanent seat too. I believe the African Union is capable of choosing a country that can represent the continent if there is an agreement for a seat or two for Africa. Both South Africa and Nigeria can be candidates.
---------quote------ "The reform of the UN Security Council (UNSC) is one of the ever-pending issues of world governance. Set up in 1946 , by the winners of the WWII, the UNSC represents a world order that no longer exists - that of France, UK, US, China and Russia as world “gendarmes”. Although outdated and unbalanced in representation, the UNSC continues to be the only global body charged with the duty of dealing with world security issues. The UNSC is not –and was not meant to be- democratic, accountable, representative, or transparent. This has justified many claims for reform. The main obstacles of reforming this body are two; firstly, those in the Security Council (SC) are not willing to give up or share their veto power and secondly, there are so many pretenders to enter the club that opening the body without changing the veto right would make the SC simply unworkable." ----end quote---------
