No mention if any of the defendants applied for bail or if bail was granted by the magistrate.M.L.K. Bojang when they appeared before him on 12th September2013.The speedy appearence of these youths before a court demonstrates that Justice Mabel Yamoa Agyemang's pledge "to build sound, credible judiciary" is taking shape.

"According to the particulars of offence, the above named persons on 11th of September, 2013 at Serekunda market and its diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality of the republic of the Gambia, gathered themselves within the premises of the said market obstructing or causing inconvenience to the public in exercise of their common rights, without authority, thereby committed an offence.
However, all the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge. At this juncture, the prosecuting officer, Inspector M. Kanteh, applied for an adjournment as the prosecution witnesses were not present in court.
The matter was then adjourned to the 18th of September, 2013 for continuation."

16 Convicted after they changed their minds and pleaded guilty,a good result for all parties and I consider a fair sentence.

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Sixteen youths were on 23 September 2013 convicted and sentenced to a fine of D1,500 each in default to serve two months in prison by Magistrate Bojang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

They are Baba Jaiteh, Babucarr Ceesay, Basiru Bah, Saidou Jah, Omar Ann, Alpha Nyockeh, Amadou Tijan Jallow, Alpha Omar Jallow, Balla Sarr, Modou Lamin Fatty, Lamin Saine, Yankuba Keita, Musa Jobe, Ebrima Ndow, Braham Mbowe, and Bubacarr Jobe.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons on 11 September 2013, at the Serekunda Market and its diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality, gathered themselves within the premises of the market, obstructing or causing inconvenience to the public in exercise of their common right without authority, thereby committed an offence.

When they were first arraigned on 12 September 2013, and charged with common nuisance, they all pleaded not guilty.

The case was then adjourned till 18 September 2013 for the prosecuting officer, Inspector Kanteh, to call his witness to testify.

After the testimony of the witness, the accused changed their plea from not guilty to guilty, saying they were all found at the black market scene of Serekunda Market.
