The Freedom online newspaper is often claiming scoop news,is this latest scoop accurate or just sensation seeking ?

And yes... I think the DO WILL run a scoop on the koriteh message from HE... Don't you? |

| T1020 I even read about the same on senegalese newspapers and the one that comes to mind is Seneweb . Clearly this showed no false press release or scoop as indicated above . Certainly we do get some over excited exposes from freedom but they are mostly spot on about issues. |

The H.E. has made his position very clear in today's D.O.
Killing people is wrong, murder is wrong, war is wrong, starvation is wrong, deaths in road accidents are wrong.
Once people are dead they are no longer in this world but inhabit another place.

Jammeh vows to implement death penalty by September The Point: Published on Tuesday, August 21, 2012
In yet another instance of tough-talking, President Yahya Jammeh has vowed that by the middle of next month (September), all the death sentences would have been carried out to the letter, though he did not give the exact figure of those currently on death row.
Jammeh, who was speaking in his address to the nation to mark this year’s Muslim holy feast of Eid-ul Fitr, said the security forces and the judiciary will continue to be empowered to enforce the law where applicable, and that all those guilty of serious crimes and are condemned will face the full force of the law...

Thanks for that Momodou.
Not sure what you are trying to say Toubab? I hope you are not comparing the execution of my husband to a tragic road accident?? This will be no accident it will be a callous act of a deranged man and the one who pulls the trigger will surely burn in hell along with him

A story from AP Mobile: Gambia president vows to execute death row inmates
BANJUL, Gambia (AP) - Gambia's president says he has vowed to start executing by mid-September all of the country's inmates who had been sentenced to the death penalty as part of efforts to curb the rising crime rate. President Yahya Jammeh did not say how many would be executed, but said the death sentences must be carried out as people continue to commit heinous crimes. He spoke Sunday during h...

Can I also add that the death penalty of 1994 had to be revisited after 4yrs and never was so any death penalty from 1999 is unconstitutional.. Correct me if I'm wrong???
Also. 'To be charged with treason there must be two (2) uncorroborated witnesses'. If innocent men are to be arbitrarily arrested and tortured for 4 months with no access to medicines or lawyers. no clothes or toiletries. not even the basic human right to see the light of day. To be tried in kangaroo courts by mercenary judges and denied the right to a fair trial and its due processes then to be publicly executed in front of the nation?? when we all stand still we will never be the same people we were before their executions..
This cannot be allowed. If there was a case was to present itself at any court on the planet it would have been thrown out on the first day...
Show me the lawyer and I'll show you the proof
Happy Belated Koriteh to one and all |

I understand you ,I should have said that all willful killing and killing by neglect is wrong. I do not condone any execution, even if ordered by a court, it was not my intention to offend anyone. I have the utmost sympathy with you Scorpiorain. Evil people will be called to account before their God.

No insult taken toubab...
So perhaps you could do your homework and correct me if I'm wrong on the constitution?
And I will stand corrected if I'm wrong by saying the actual number of prisoners facing the death penalty in Gambia is 44 and not the 30 guestimated in the article...

Does anyone have a list of names of the people that are charged with the death penalty? Does anyone have a list of their crimes? Are Amnesty International involved in the cases? What nationalities are the people? Are they all Gambian? If not, can outside countries put pressure on the President? Did these people have fair trials?
I find this all very shocking and upsetting. It is a very backward step. I am very sad for all the people involved and their families. |

Thanks.I an not a scholar on any subject, I just comment here On Bantaba in Cyberspace on available media reports from the Gambian newspapers and other information gleaned from the internet I give my own opinion,I cannot help you, but if you searched the WWW yourself you may have found this site which does give such a list,the publishers obviously have their ear to the ground;
