Africa land deals lead to water giveaway

Africa heads for 'hydrological suicide' as land deals hand water resources to foreign firms, threatening environmental disaster
Millions of people will lose access to traditional sources of water because of "land grabs" in Africa, according to a report on Monday that looks behind the scramble for farmland in Africa. The report: Squeezing Africa dry: behind every land grab is a water grab, shows how land deals, covering millions of acres of fertile lands, also pose a threat to Africa's fresh water systems.

Momodou,yes serious for indigenous people who subsist on what food they can scratch from their land,however the arabs and indians have seen great opportunities for profit from growing food on underutilised land in Africa,they have the money to make this wasted resource of land profitable for themselves and hopefully provide work for jobless people which will enable them to buy things that they never thought they would be able to,however arabs and indians are not famous for paying fair wages to locals, WATER IS VITAL FOR THIS KIND OF ENTERPRISE AND I HAVE NO DOUBT WHATEVER that human greed WILL be much above concerns for PROPER water management which will be the last thing on the minds of these enterprising newcomers. |
