"The singer-politician, leader of the Bollé Fekke Maci, Youssou Ndour was named Minister of Culture and Tourism in the new government, led by Prime Minister Abdoul Mbaye. The artist Youssou Ndour has been a strong ally of the new President of the Republic, Macky Sall in the presidential elections of 25 March 2012. The leader of Bollé Fekke Maci was the initiator of the operation "Wer Ndombo" during the campaign of the second round of presidential elections. Except, Youssou Ndour, the candidate, mayor of St. Louis, Cheikh Bamba Dieye is the only ally of President Macky Sall, to hold a ministerial post in the first new government, created after the presidential elections on March 25, 2012."

"It's now official, the King of Mbalax became Minister of Culture and Tourism. Following the publication of new government yesterday, the Minister responded: "I am very aware of the responsibility and I will do my best to deserve it more (Editor's note: that of Macky Sall) and the confidence of the Prime Minister that am appointed as Minister of Culture and Tourism. I think those are two areas that concern me directly, because I am a man of culture. I am an artist, I also think that I am a traveler and I love my country. Without entering, for now, in the bottom of things, I would say that the level of the arts, we will listen to all the world to find solutions to problems, to highlight the importance of this sector. Regarding the tourism component, I will make the world understand what keeps me in my country. I will encourage them to come visit my country that I love more than anything. " This was the first reaction Youssou Ndour (Source: The Observer)."

FREEDOM NEWS;

IS IT WISE FOR YOUSSOU TO ABANDON HIS MUSIC AND PROJECTS TO ACCEPT SERVE AS CULTURE & TOURISM MINISTER

I WOULD HAVE ADVISED THAT HE REJECT THE APPOINTMENT AN DECLARED THAT HE WAS FIGHTING TO DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION, SUPPORTING SOLIDARITY ("FEH CHE BOLEH MA CHI"), NATIONAL UNITY, FRANCHISING CITIZENS, NATIONAL INTERESTS; TO SERVE THE COUNTRY IN HOUR OF NEED AND NATIONAL CRISES

IT IS PRE-MATURE AT PEAK OF HIS CAREER (WITH MORE PROMISING EXPECTATIONS POST-ELECTIONS GLOBALLY) TO ABANDON IT AND TRANSFER TO POLITICS; TRYING TO CLEAN EX-PRESIDENT WADE'S GOVERNMENT MESS

I DON'T SUPPORT HIM ON THIS DECISION AND WHAT'S YOUR SAY

TIME WILL TELL

"President of Senegalese filmmakers associated (Cinéseas), Cheikh Ba Ngaïdo, welcomed the appointment of the artist-musician Youssou Ndour as Minister of Culture and Tourism, believing that his ability to revive these two sectors will also depend the team that will accompany it.

In an interview with APS, after the formation of the first government of the era Macky Sall, Mr. Ba said that the singer is a cultural actor who excels'' last thirty years in his field ' 'before considering the first actions the new minister should immediately conduct'' and now''.

Question: How did you welcome the appointment of Youssou Ndour as Minister of Culture and Tourism?

Answer:'' I say 'why not? +. I rejoice This is a self-made man, and today the world is run by self-made men. We can not be in tune with what's happening in globalized.

It has not given the economy and finance, there has not told within it has not given trade. He was given an area in which he excelled last thirty years, and he has made achievements that are visible. That's the level of culture.

Tourism, there is no better profile than him today. It is part of one hundred personalities from the world, it's not that we have said. Tourism is culture too. I always dreamed of a good ministry of culture and tourism that manages the destination and the country's image. Youssou Ndour is an ambassador, it is important that he can revive tourism and I think he can from his image. All in all, I found a consistency.

Q: How should he go about his mission to succeed the head of the department?

A: You can be the best minister, but for me it remains a policy portfolio, whoever you are. It depends on your surroundings. My problem is not Youssou Ndour, is the team that will work with him. If it takes people who know better records, which, for years, working on records, movies, music, etc.., There is no reason he should not succeed.

In the process, I would like him to think in terms of cultural industries and art. If one links the cultural industries, arts with tourism, I think there there is an economic dimension of culture that goes out. He (Youssou N'Dour) has proved in practice.

Today, the best carrier of cultural industries that are engine of growth and development factor is called Youssou Ndour who is self-made man. You leave some beaten track, it is the field of cultural industries. This is a practical man who I hope will not become a bureaucrat. In each sector there are sharp people he has known, met and who can get things done.

Q: What do you expect from him in the film industry?

A: I give him a quarter for the movies. Everything is done in our industry, just apply. We must give the film promotion fund that exists across the decree. We need the first allocation of three billion CFA francs to work. We signed a decree on 24 July 2004, he expects application.

It should also immediately and now we apply the directive of the European Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) by creating the National Center for Cinematography (CNC). This is an EU directive. If all eight UEMOA countries do, co-productions will be easier.

I used to say that we are 70 million spectators in the UEMOA, if 7 million, that is to say, the tenth, see a movie in 1000 CFA is 7000000000. We worked on the texts are there. If the National Centre is created, it can be a good technical center.

We can also, with the Fund, through the banks, have credits as part of a public-private partnership, have a good CNC. Without dreams, these are things that are concrete, achievable. This is not a project of 20 billion, it's realistic. In one quarter, one gives the film on track. Rooms can go back through the bottom.

There are 86 festivals in the world, one can find a link with tourism. To showcase the'' Senegal'', it is important. The success of Youssou Ndour is ours, we are ready to get involved.

For the first time, it was a cultural actor actor who is cultural. Wherever there has been a cultural actor, it went well: Cheick Oumar Sissoko, Mali, Gilberto Gil in Brazil. We all need to surround Youssou Ndour. Senegalese filmmakers involved are available to accompany him, to support its action. But they must be pre that I just mentioned. Our support depends on it."

"His "Super Star" guide his steps always. Youssou Ndour, lead vocal of Super Star of Dakar, christened a new era in the management of public affairs by becoming the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the first government of Macky Sall. A priori, it happens on land it seems certain because of his knowledge of the environment. Youssou Ndour is a unanimous First World, a star known and respected by the major makers of this world. And especially an address book balèze. To see a close, this appointment in the Department of Culture and Tourism meets the profile of the child of the Medina in these two areas that need funding and outside support. In appointing him to this position, the Head of State uninhibited a ministerial function designed for academic skills. This appointment recalls Gilberto Gil, Brazilian singer and composer musician, born in Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) June 26, 1942. Degree in management / administration, he was Minister of Culture of the government of Lula da Silva on January 2, 2003 July 30, 2008. But, Youssou Ndour has neither trained, let alone university degrees who logically predestined to a high administrative function. The "king of mbalax" or the former (?) Almost right to the honors: musician prosperous, respected opinion leader and listened, businessman and above Sioux committed politician. During this Presidential, it was not made #8203;#8203;to push Wade "outside" by launching the operation Weur Ndoumb that appealed to the former president. By invalidating a candidate, the Constitutional Council gave a new dimension: Minister of Culture and Tourism. It can still believe in his star."

"Let me be clear! Far from me the whole idea of questioning the ability of Youssou Ndour to managing the Department of Culture and Tourism. The man has proven itself in the cultural community in Senegal. His appointment is legitimate. Is it ethical for all? The office of Minister of Culture is compatible with that leadership structures that thrive in the cultural community? At a time when the creed is "to serve and not to use" these questions deserve some attention for a moment.

It seems important to raise the conflict of interest which remains throughout the appointment. Indeed the personal interests of You (music group, music production studio, media group that benefits also in the cultural sector) compete with the mission entrusted to him by the Senegalese state. One of the competing interests could corrupt motivation to influence others. Retaining ownership of these structures will be Youssou Ndour in an appearance of impropriety that can undermine confidence in its ability to fulfill its responsibility to the Minister of Culture.

Imagine that in an arbitration of the Minister of Culture You following a tender, the cover of a cultural program is attributed to the TFM. Certainly the speculation will go full swing even though the award to the group he leads is warranted. The suspicion of a lack of neutrality or impartiality will prevail. It could also ensue, against the culture minister and owner of the TFM, a charge of unlawful taking of interest is the fact that, by a person holding public authority [...] to take , receive or retain, directly or indirectly, any interest in a business or a transaction for which it has, at the time of the act, in whole or in part, responsible for providing supervision, administration, liquidation or the payment.

For all these reasons and for greater transparency in governance are two options to the new Minister of Culture: resign or give up its economic structures.

Long live the good governance! Long live the Republic!"

"The singer and businessman Senegalese Youssou Ndour, newly appointed Minister of Culture and Tourism will announce in the coming days the name of a CEO to run his company Future Media. It also formally denies having obtained a mobile license, as insinuated the Senegalese press this morning.

He has not officially announced but is preparing to do so: the singer Youssou Ndour, Minister of Culture and Tourism in Senegal, owner of Future Media, which includes a particular television channel (TFM), a newspaper (Observer) and radio (RFM), delegate the general direction the time he held his governmental duties. His entourage assures that had not yet decided on the name of the future leader.

Controversy

Moreover, since two weeks, the king of Mbalax been a controversy regarding the award of a fourth license phone - then joining Tigo, Espresso and Orange. According to one rumor, reported in the press, his desire to get it would have been his only motivation to engage in the presidential race (his application had been invalidated by the Constitutional Council) and to join the newly elected president Macky Sall .

Denied from the beginning by the singer, the case is now defused by the Regulatory Agency for Telecommunications and Posts (ARTP). "The decision to open the market for a fourth license for the President of the Republic, says one in Dakar, and the bidding process and award through the Department of Communication, the ARTP, and a structure created for the occasion. "For now, the ARTP ensures, any plans for a new license is in the pipes."

""I congratulate my younger brother Youssou because it is good that God has given him. He deserves it and this is an opportunity for me to pray for him and encourage him to this promotion he just had, wishing him success in his mission. He must pray much, thank God and do good, because God gave him everything, in all sectors of activity where it is invested, Youssou has always been God's blessing.

Any metal he touches turns to gold. He has his radio, his newspaper, his recording studio, his television and there is talk of a telephone license. So we must recognize that God has provided everything. He was appointed Minister of Culture and has the credibility to ensure the mission assigned to it. Moreover, it has international recognition and is out of place in this sector. He was assigned in its natural environment, so it has all the capabilities to master such a burden, it has enough "baggage" to manage this department.

I wish him good hunting and good luck with everything in the hope that it solves the evils he denounced as an artist to bring the cultural world on track. It should solve all the problems that often face the musicians in particular and he does so not just his critics. Because as you know, some opinions are divided following his appointment, but most important is that he must do everything to silence its critics, for it is this decision emanates from God, no one can the challenge. Youssou is a younger brother and it was a time, we had a somewhat strained relationship, so to speak. But since our reconciliation and our return from Bercy, we have excellent relations. I am very proud of him and asked him to put their hands in the dough to clean up the cultural field. ""

"After roundly criticized the appointment of Mbaye Ndiaye as Minister of the Interior, where logic, he says, wants us to put an apolitical, Omar Faye is pointing errors against the new Minister of Culture and Tourism. "We should not accept that Macky Sall to be invaded by the personality of Youssou Ndour," says the president of Leeral Askan Wi, who think Youssou Ndour has neither the competence nor the knowledge to manage a department. For him, "Youssou Ndour, it's like Awa Diop time regime Wade." "We can not deny a minister in Awa Diop, under the pretext that she has no qualifications and to accept Youssou Ndour," denounces the boss Leraal Askan Wi. Omar Faye believes that "Youssou Ndour must have the greatness to refuse a minister, his appointment to this position is too light," he adds, according to our colleagues Walf Grand Place."

"Since the proclamation of the list of 25 government ministers Abdoul Mbaye appointed prime minister by the president Macky Sall, one minister holds the attention of all: Youssou Ndour. While some welcome this appointment and wish great success to the king of Mbalax (now Minister of Culture and Tourism), others are distinguished by their virulent attacks against the child of the Medina. What do they have to accuse Youssou Ndour? They accuse him of not having a degree as if to participate in political life in Senegal, as if to participate in decisions affecting the country, it is mandatory to be a graduate of the Sorbonne, Harvard or MC Gill. The attacks Youssou Ndour been since April 4, in my opinion are unfounded. Brandish the degree argument to oppose his nomination is primarily related to a complex of degree which is a colonial legacy.

The complex degree, a colonial legacy in Senegal

The misfortune in Senegal as in several countries from the French colonial system, which is of such importance to the degree that never gives chance to those who did not go to French schools to show their ability and skills. It is believed wrongly that intellectuals, elites or opinion leaders should all be people placed by the French school or to a lesser extent be Arabists. If you're not in one of these camps, it is rather seen as a social offender, a nobody. Yet in the English system and particularly in North America and Canada the reality is different. Here, as in other English speaking countries, we value the diploma course, but we value above all the skills and experience. One never hesitates to give a person a chance to see if if it is actually able to complete a job or task entrusted to it. It's called pragmatism and saving time (time is money). Besides, it is rare to see in North America until the doctoral graduates or otherwise. Each person has a background (not necessarily academic) who can contribute to development. The elite or intellectual is not necessarily one that the Ph.D. (doctorate), but one who is capable, the one who showed the most proven. Only countries like Senegal, where we still think that without the diploma, it is a social failure. Sii gold that was the case, Ousmane Sembene, writer, filmmaker and a great intellectual Senegalese would never known. As Sembene Ousmane, Youssou Ndour is also a self-taught and has proved to the world of what he is capable at all levels.

Youssou Ndour skills are known and recognized

Youssou has shown the world his skills and creative genius. If he managed to excel in his field by working with the biggest names in music as Peter Gabriel, Paul Frederic Simon, Manu Dibango, Alan Stivell, Neneh Cherry, etc.. what would prevent him from doing the same in tourism and culture in Senegal, a small country of less than 200,000 square miles. What should I be a graduate of Harvard, Princeton or MC Gill to head a ministry in Senegal? In 1998, Youssou Ndour composed the anthem for the final phase of World Cup Soccer 1998, The Court of the great, he sings with Axelle Red. In 2008, he worked with the artist in the Congolese Koffi Edge Ezanga Kombo album, he performed the song festival with Koffi The Heart and Cindy. He is the composer of the music from the animated film Kirikou and the Sorceress (1998). He also starred in the film Amazing Grace (2006) through the character of Olaudah Equiano and exercised his own role in the documentary Return to Goree (2007) depicting the history of the slave trade and its musical heritage through jazz and gospel. Youssou Ndour is also a tireless defender of Senegal and Africa.

Youssou is a patriot and a Pan-Africanist

We must respect Youssou Ndour because it is a great patriot and a convinced Pan-Africanist. He always gave a good picture of Senegal which he defended in all TV channels and newspapers world most famous). Committed singer, Youssou N'Dour organized a concert in 1985 for the release of Nelson Mandela at the Stade de l'Amitie in Dakar. Meanwhile, most African leaders like Houphouet Boigny and Mobutu of former Zaire supported the racist regime of P. Botha. In 1987, many opponents in Senegal and members of civil society wanted to show solidarity with their fellow South African, but their demonstration was violently dispersed by security forces under Abdou Diouf. What is to be intellectual or graduate if it's to participate in the plot against his African brothers and sisters? Concerned about issues of human right and decided to carve his name in the fight against injustice, the child of Medina also organized several concerts for the benefit of the humanitarian organization Amnesty International. Recognized worldwide for his skills, his leadership and commitment, Youssou Ndour was named goodwill ambassador for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and UNICEF, and then was chosen as ambassador to the International travai (ILO) l. Youssou Ndour has created his own foundation that bears his name with the aim of working towards sustainable development and children's rights, and fight against malaria. This foundation was established in 2000, when the Senegal celebrates its first democratic. In 2004, Youssou N'Dour participated in Act React hard to help victims of the earthquake that shook the region of Al Hoceima in Morocco. In 2007, with other artists involved, he participated in the realization of Make some noises which is a cover of John Lennon's famous album, Imagine. This album is the symbol of a great mobilization for ending the crisis in Darfur that has caused thousands of deaths at the indifference of the great powers of this world. In this original version of Imagine, Jealous Guy performer Youssou N'Dour. Then he launched 13 February 2008 in collaboration with Benetton United Color micro-credit company, called Birima, named after one of darnel (King) of the Kingdom of Cayor he sang at the mid-1990s. In November 2009 he presented his microcredit company in the World Forum Lille (Global Forum for Responsible Economy) held in Lille on the theme of "sustainable finance". There is also a member of the honorary committee of the Chirac Foundation, alongside former President of the French Republic as well as Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations, Nobel Peace Rajendra Pachauri, Muhammad Yunus and Rigoberta Menchu, the Polish Bronislaw Geremek, and the Secretary General of La Francophonie Abdou Diouf. What is this intellectual, politician or graduate Senegalese dare say out loud that he has done as much as Youssou Ndour for the defense of freedom, the respect of Africans and the development of Senegal and the continent. While Youssou Ndour did not graduate in the Senegalese education system, it is still a very learned man.

Youssou, the most educated "Senegalese intellectuals"

TO those who prey on Youssou Ndour on the basis of qualifications, we reply, that since his early youth until now, Youssou has continued to learn. Recall that the statement is nothing but a set of skills or knowledge is transmitted through the school or otherwise (see, travel, discover, hear people say, to see people , practice, etc..). But among all these elements, the trip appears to be the most effective instruction. Did you know that one trip is better than reading books 7 saying a great scholar. Is it not our prophet Mohamed PBUH who told his followers to travel, "go to China to seek knowledge). The Prophet Muhammad PBUH, saying it did not mention graduation, he instead spoke of the journey, the discovery, contact with other realities, other cultures and other societies different from ours and that we enrich for of life. Closer to home, El Hadji Omar Tall said members of his community "REEEP ndarjoon = traveling and you will be rich in knowledge, culture and property." Of 13 million Senegalese today, there are one or one that has traveled more than Youssou Ndour? Youssou went in all continents. There are few countries where it has not put his feet. During these wanderings, Youssou met great personalities of this world, he made friends with men of culture, artists, entrepreneurs, all persons who excel in their respective fields. Although he quit school at the elementary, Youssou has educated himself. Today it handles very well the language of Molière and speaks better English than many graduates and Senegalese intellectuals. He should know that to learn you do not need to stay within four walls, sitting on benches and deal with a teacher who himself is a culturally alienated. To learn, you do not necessarily need to go to school. If we had to go to school to lead Sitoe Diatta is not a heroine in Casamance and Senegal. Whether to attend graduate school or be to lead a department or a country's comparative Martelly King would never be president of Haiti. Examples are numerous. On the other hand, we saw hyper graduates, PhDs in economics, law, history, political science, mathematics or physical out of the largest universities in the world but that divided their country, manipulated and terrorized their populations, created situations of war, budgets and diverted public money, betrayed the people they are supposed to serve yet. Some have even agreed to conspire with foreign powers against their country or continent by selling almost all resources available for free. These leaders there, what they have served their diplomas if not to kill, still kill and kill again, if not to hurt their citizens every day, to separate families and destroy the hope of youth. Personally, I remain convinced that Youssou Ndour is able to complete the task he has assigned, it will bring his creative genius, and develop the tourism sector and that of culture. Their skills, experiences, his charisma, his leadership and many interesting contacts he has around the world will allow it to quickly bring new blood into the ministry entrusted to his care. I do not see why people like Pierre Beregovoy labor unionist and former Prime Minister Francois Mitterrand, Lula worker-unionist and former head of state of Brazil, Pelé, the king of football (former Minister of Sport of Brazil), Ronald Reagan filmmaker and former president of the United States, etc.. who are not graduates, but who are competent, have not succeeded and Youssou N'Dour. Youssou Ndour say that nothing can be done as a minister is not only contempt for his person but also a big insult to all Senegalese Senegalese and which are not attended school French or Arabic, which, however excellent in their field and play a daily role in the development and stability. We can not judge Youssou Ndour in his new role as Minister at the end of his term, as all members of the government and the President of the Republic. Therefore, it is a false debate, even in bad faith to say that Youssou does not deserve the post of Minister because he has no qualifications. Instead of attacking against this brave boy of Africa that is cherished around the world, we must rather praise and support.

What is the Cultural objective of the Government?

All ministers work within the framework of a government to implement that government’s policy. Youssou is not an island but part of a team that would implement government-policy.
Therefore it is more important to know what the government’s cultural policy is than what Youssou as an individual can do for Culture.

"Former Premier, Mr. Souleymane Ndiaye Ndene, believes that the President of the Movement Fékké Ci Ma Boole, Youssou Ndour, has the capacity to head the Department he was given. Mr. Ndiaye, who think it is in action that are considered ministers, noted in the columns of The Ace, the new Minister of Culture and Tourism "is open enough, smart enough impetus for the movement in this ministry. "

Indicating, however, that Youssou Ndour has no place in a presidential election, because to run a country, there is a minimum of one must have knowledge, the former MP of information that "to lead a department, it is much less complicated. I hope he will succeed and I wish him well in this ministry of Culture which is not as simple a ministry. ""

" The leaders of the Movement Coordination of citizen'' Fekké Ci Ma Bole (FMCB)'' decided Tuesday to stand as a shield to meet the attacks been its leader Youssou Ndour since his appointment as Minister of Culture and Tourism in the first government of President Macky Sall. "We will respond to all attacks will be for our leader, warned Abdou Dia, head of FMCB to Mbacke. We will also face many and multifaceted attacks from all sides, which it is applicable. " Met on Tuesday for the purposes of a press conference at the headquarters of the movement founded by artist-musician, coordination has decided to focus its activities around the concept Ndombo'''' (mystical belt or necklace).

For the latter, named Youssou Ndour, is "putting the right man in the right place," according to our colleagues at The Tribune."

"As the new Minister of Culture and Tourism, Youssou Ndour has started since a few days visit with former ministers who have held this position in Senegal, he has just received a letter from his predecessor Makhily Gassama which the transition to head of this department was one of the best in the era Abdou Diouf. The former minister and ambassador of Senegal predicts a successful teaching at the Senegalese star.

In an open letter, former Minister of Culture, Gassama Makhily welcomed the appointment of "King of mbalakh" at the head of this department he headed under President Abdou Diouf, after the Cultural Counsellor President Senghor. "I welcome this gesture highly intelligent and promising of the new President of our Republic. The Senegal thank you for having accepted the offer of love for him. All indications are that you will be certainly the greatest minister of Culture and Tourism since the independence of our country. I venture to predict without merit because the work already carried confirms, "wrote Mr. Gassama who said they had written this letter of thanks to Youssou Ndour, before learning his appointment.

On the letters sent to the editor of Daily, the former Minister of Culture considers that Youssou Ndour is certainly among the proudest of Senegal. He writes about it: "I know there is, in this ancient and beautiful country, many reputations overrated," personalities "flimsy, artificially forged by our powerful traditional and modern channels of communication. Surely they will not withstand the onslaught of time. But you, Youssou is by dint of intelligence, hard work, sweat, you've built the empire that every African is proud to live, an empire that you never cease to embellish, at each stage of your life, to the glory of our continent. "Notice that drives Mr. Gassama, also writer and essayist, to press his thanks to the new Minister of Culture. "I thank you especially for having been heard, by your action, political and intellectual elites of the continent that is not enough to be" paunchy degrees "to hold a monopoly on patriotism and competence in conducting country's affairs. The diploma has its limits, "he wrote.

Thanks for the example

The former minister and ambassador of Senegal, also believes that "the intelligence, competence, love of country knows no limits." Why the commitment of Youssou Ndour, "the political field during these crucial hours facing Africa, is healthy and must reflect the political and cultural world," he said. He particularly thanked the leader of political movement Fekké Maci Boole, for allowing a "great national revival of Senegalese youth." "I thank you for having mobilized the entire Senegalese youth around the most powerful symbol, the noblest of our country, this symbol as their fathers trample every day: yes, I saw with my own eyes that our youth wield flag like a sword - nay? - as a Koran, a Bible as the face of the world on the campus of the University Cheikh Anta Diop!, "says Makhily Gassama. He continues: "I heard him sing freely anthem, the anthem of Senegal, as if I had to hear for the first time! That was unexpected! It was beautiful! Beautiful as the freedom! As symbols, Youssou that evening: the flag - which has more meaning to us - this campus, light source, a light that fails to pierce the darkness that we like to maintain in our country, Cheikh Anta Diop, whose name is sung in our universities, but whose teachings are forgotten, this huge crowd composed solely of young, future of the continent! What symbols sparkling! ""
