DAILY OBSERVER NEWS;

"Monday, March 12, 2012

One Mustapha Colley, an ex-army sergeant was Saturday night found dead in his Benz taxi with registration number BJL 2313G at Salagie around Brusubi.

A source told the Daily Observer that the incident happened after the late Colley received a telephone call from an unknown person informing him that he wants to make a money transfer and needs a taxi to take him to his destination. “On arrival at Salagie, the deceased was attacked and his neck was broken inside his vehicle.

He was then placed on the driving seat, his cap on his head, and his two hands on the steering wheel as if he was waiting for somebody,” the sources revealed. Sources added that Colley’s vehicle tape was taken away, while his mobile phones and wallet were left with him.

ASP Yerro Mballow, the Police public relations officer confirmed the incident. He said Colley’s body is presently at the mortuary and police have mounted an investigation into the matter. He appealed to the general public to furnish them with information in connection to the case.

When contacted, Lieutenant Babucarr Jarju, the public relations officer of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) said the late Colley was a dismissed soldier, but was still staying at the Yundum Barracks at the time of his death.“If you are a serving member of the Gambia Armed Forces and dismissed, you are given sometime to stay within the barracks before you have another place to stay, and within that this unfortunate incident happened,” the GAF PRO explained.

Meanwhile, Daily Observer also contacted the RVTH to get information regarding the autopsy on the deceased, but the public relations officer, Baboucarr Ngum said he has not been in the office for the past one week and has no information regarding the incident. The deceased will be laid to rest today."

This doesn't make a lot of sense,the details are too specific only the late Mustapha Colley.and persons involved or responsible would have know all this information,Therefore I cannot see how a witness at the scene of the death would have been aware of the contents of the phone call to Mustapha Colley.at the place where he received the call,robbery was not the reason (wallet and phones left ) why take the tape ?
Broken neck? ,a stabbing or beating ,yes, but breaking a neck?someone has had some training to achieve a death in this manner.
There is a reason for this and that is NOT TO DO WITH MONEY.will the truth come out ?
"police have mounted an investigation into the matter." will that result in the arrest of the perpetrator ?

After I had my Bantaba fix,I looked at the Gambian press and low and behold was the SAME story in Forayya ,a major difference here Mustapha Colley was the way in which he died:
"The body was said to have sustained stabbed wounds from a knife."
the report in FOROYAA seems much more likely than that in the D.O. and opens a much more likely cause of death.
With conflicting reports of THE FACTS of the death,no wonder everyone is confused.
OK I suppose he could have a broken neck and been stabbed,a bit unlikely though.
Nevertheless a man has been MURDERED and the murderer MUST be caught and brought to justice it is my hope that the Gambian police can ascertain the TRUE facts.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.

FOROYAA NATIONAL NEWS;

"It has been reported to Foroyaa that a soldier, Mustapha Colley, who was staying at the Yundum army barracks, was found dead in a taxi packed on the highway near Jabang village in the early hours of Sunday, 11 March 2012.

According to the information, Colley, who owns a taxi, received a phone call around 5pm from an unknown person who wanted to hire him for a town trip. It was said that the first wife who was staying with him at the barracks asked whether he (Colley) knows the person who was calling but the husband said he didn’t know him and that the wife discouraged him from going. Colley was said to have left for the second wife at Faji Kunda on the same day and from where he again received a second call from the said unknown person. It was from here that he left to meet with the anonymous caller.

According to a family member, the first wife called the cell phone of her husband and it was received by a man who asked her to go to the Brusubi Police Station and from where she was told about the tragic incident.

The body was said to have sustained stabbed wounds from a knife. The corpse is said to have been taken to the mortuary at the RVTH in Banjul.

Foroyaa will make enquiries and report on the mysterious incident."

Karamba! More on this scandal read Freedom Newspaper news and its editorial? As "the late Colley was a dismissed soldier, but was still staying at the Yundum Barracks at the time of his death"; Freedom News made an allegation that "he (late Staff Sergeant Mustapha Colley) was dismissed from the State House Presidential Guards on allegations of refusing to vote for dictator Yaya Jammeh in the past Presidential elections,"? A very interesting story, controversial and/or may not be reliable
