Gambia risks FIFA's wrath over government interference Gambian football federation - Gambia risks being suspended from international competitions following the government's decision to dissolve the country's football federation. Angered by the persistent poor showing of the country's senior national team, Minister of Youth and Sports Alieu Jammeh announced the dissolution on Saturday.
The immediate trigger is Gambia's 1-2 loss to Algeria in Banjul, in Wednesday's first leg, first round qualification series for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
FIFA abhors government interference in the administration of the game, and its reaction is expected this week.
If FIFA suspends Gambia, the country's clubs featuring in continental competitions - Birkama United and Gamtel - will also be affected, along with all the national teams.
While Birkama advanced to the next round of the CAF Champions League this weekend, Gamtel also progressed in the CAF Confederation Cup.
