Foroyaa Editorial: SHOULD THOSE WHO EARN LESS THAN ONE DOLLAR A DAY PAY INCOME TAX?

By Publisher on 14-02-12

The Minister of Finance should look into this commonly raised question once he is sworn in to assume his post.
In short, in his 2012 Budget Speech, the Minister of Finance stated the following: “The Government of the Gambia will continue in its quest for accelerated growth and reduce poverty by promoting inclusive growth to create opportunities for its citizens. In addition inclusive growth will address the issue of inequality, and also make the poverty reduction efforts more effective by explicitly creating opportunities for the poor and vulnerable sections of the society.”

Foroyaa is of the opinion that the most elementary definition of poverty that is universally accepted is the earning of less than one dollar a day. One dollar a day is approximately 30 Dalasis a day. This would amount to less than 900 Dalasis a month if a day or two are taken as off days....

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
