GAINAKO ONLINE;
Breaking News: Hamat Bah is the New Flagbearer of a Fragmented Opposition Alliance

"By Gainako's Special Reporter

Report reaching Gainako this evening has it that the much talked about new fragmented opposition alliance has voted Hamat Bah of the NRP as the new flagbearer of the Alliance.

The alliance consisting of four opposition parties PDOIS, NADD, NRP and GPDP who agreed to hold a convention to select a flagbearer held it's convention today at the Atlantic Hotel in Banjul.

According to the reports Hamat Bah of the NRP, Henry Gomez of GPDP and Assan Martin an independent candidate vied for the position of flagbearer. Hamat Bah was elected with 56.19% of the votes, Henry Gomez came second with 32% of the votes and Assan Martin came in distant third with 19.5% of the votes.

As stipulated by the guidelines of the convention, Hamat Bah is the flagbearer and Henry Gomez will be his running mate. Details of the convention and what next for this partial opposition unity are still forthcoming.

It is now clear that the Presidential elections in November will have a three way race with President Jammeh of the APRC, Ousainou Darboe of the UDP and Hamat Bah of the new opposition alliance contesting the November elections.

It remains to be seen whether UDP will also go into a formal alliance with the remnance of the PPP and the GMC headed by O.J and Mai Fatty respectively.

One thing is absolutely clear, this three way contest does not spell well for the opposition as they will be dividing the opposition votes, thus giving President Jammeh an absolute advantage in winning the elections. Stay tuned for more details!"

The Gambia and its leader can easily be predicted and as i think Dbaldeh rightly put it here the Grand Prof will hit the road to ask for electorates to vote for him that prediction is coming true as at this morning the mouth piece of the Jammeh administration just publish this piece on the Jammeh/daily observer:

"President’s mother: I want my son to go on a ‘thank you’ tour
Friday, November 04, 2011
The mother of the president of the Republic has said that she wants her son to go on a tour of the country to express gratitude to the electorate for giving him a five-year mandate to rule The Gambia.

Aja Ashombi Bojang was speaking during an interview with Kamakalorr, a GRTS Jola programme aired Wednesday evening. Speaking in Jola, Aja Ashombi said: “I am not saying he [President Jammeh] should campaign, but rather go on a ‘thank you’ tour in order to thank the electorate for giving him a five-year mandate.”

She noted that many Gambians always say ‘thanks’ to the president each time he does something good for them. “So I thought it is prudent that he too should do the same,” she added.

Aja Ashombi disclosed that just last week dozens of beneficiaries of the President Alternative Treatment Programme (PATP) were in Kanilai to assist the president in his farm as a way of thanking him for the free treatment given to them.

She added: “I am emphasising that my son should go on a ‘thank you’ tour. I have to again emphasise that I am not saying he should go and campaign. The five-year mandate given to him is coming to an end, so he should go and thank the electorate. This is my wish as a mother."

'Thank you tour' waw the old mama is so innovative.
