This is a letter I am sending to all my contacts about my project, so I thought I would put it on Bantaba too.

Dear 'Friends of Kolior Nursery School',

This is just a short letter to up date you on the situation with my projects in The Gambia.

My financial circumstances are a bit more difficult since my divorce. I have to sell my house and move to a smaller one or refinance somehow. I also have to work more to suport myself and Claire. I have cancelled going to The Gambia in November 2006 to concentrate on things at home. However, I hope to be going to The Gambia on my own for 2 weeks in March 2007 and also for a week in November 2007 (with Beacon Community College) when I am looking forward to taking Claire with me for the first time.

I would still like to teach in a nursery school in The Gambia sometime in the future. It will be a few years before I can afford the time to do this. It would be great to do one whole year, a working gap year for a midlife woman! It could be the perfect way to celebrate my 50th year!

I am still supporting individual children with their education. I have 5 children that I help. I know of other children that need help if any of you are interested? I am not able to sponsor any more children, but have said I will help them find a suitable sponsor. £120 per year is a very useful amount to a family in The Gambia. In most families that will be doubling the families ANNUAL income. Please think carefully if you can make that commitment. I am still going to be in regular contact with Lamin Dibba and he will inform me of each child's progress by keeping in regular contact with the families. Any money I send on your behalf willbe sent through him and he will check that the child is attending school. You will receive a photo of the child and an annual report about the childs progree. It is also possible for you to write to the family via Lamin.

I am NOT going to start any NEW large scale projects such as building nursery schools or sending containers. I am afraid this is too much responsibility for me on top of my own circumstances at the moment. I am still committed to helping with education in Kolior. Building the new nursery school there is my main long term project. So far they have made a start on making the hand made building blocks. Soon they will start making the building. I am raising money from donations and car boot sales.

As usual, any donations of money, things to sell or things to take out to Gambia, will be VERY gratefully received. I have decided NOT to register as a charity as I am going to keep things small scale.
My 2 areas of interest within education are:
1. Helping with nursery education to give the child a good start in life.
2. Finding Sponsors to help individual families send their child to school.
I pledge as always 100% of any donations will go directly to the project at Kolior nursery school.

Thanks
Bev

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this. If anyone is interested in helping in any way you can contact me directly on my new email address: leicesterbev@hotmail.com

As you all know I contribute to bantaba alot. I enjoy the discussion and debate.... and a bit of fun sometimes too! I love The Gambia and like my holidays, soaking up the sun and enjoying the nightlife. BUT THE MY REASON I AM SO INTERESTED IN THE GAMBIA IS TO TRY TO HELP MAKE A BETTER FUTURE FOR SOME OF IT'S CHILDREN.

I know I can't change the world, I can't change the Gambia, I cna't even change one village. But if I can help a FEW children in that village get a better start in life then I feel I will have done a LITTLE good. When I die a few people will remember me for doing a bit of good and making a bit of difference. I will be very happy with that memorial.......my 5 Gambian children living better lives......

No one should have ill feelings against a good course initiated on humanitarian grounds. To take care of one child is magnaminous and more than one are being cared for. Reap what you sow!

No..the school I go with is in Crowborough East Sussex. They have been going for more than 10 years and fund raise about 20,000 ever year. They have done some brilliant projects around Tendaba. I just go as an extra adult.
