I am very interested to hear from people in the Gambia, on the ground.
Is the election process going smoothly?
Is the atmosphere calm?
Can anyone tell me how people who cant read and write make their vote?

I am pleased that this has been published and mistakes that have occurred in the past are being recognised and dealt with, the articles answering some of my questions:
"The coalition will deploy 120 election observers throughout the country,”
http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/csc-trains-election-observers
And The Point: "He then used the opportunity to appeal to the participants to take the training seriously so as to acquire the knowledge for the execution of their electoral duties."

Kobo has been unable to answer my questions about the Gambian voting system, except to say that Observers have arrived, very good how many? one two three, enough to cover the country? the rest of the technical questions have been consigned to the too difficult draw which has been closed, come on some politico her can tell us the answers.
Kobo, just a thought, all very exciting BUT are there any observers from outside the country to verify that the WHOLE process of the election was fair and above board,? Who for instance counts the votes? Who sees that ALL the votes arrive ? Who sees that ALL the ballot boxes are sealed? Who is the senior official at each polling place? Where will all the votes be counted ? When will the votes be counted? Will any independent observers be at the count?
Perhaps these things have not been thought about with all the campaigning going on in the last few weeks,I have seen none of these questions addressed, there again I could have missed something

I just want to share that I once had the opportunity to observe election in the Gambia. To be honest on the day election including counting of votes, the process mostly fair. There may be a one or two centers that have irregularities but not enough to change the final out put. The statement above should not be taken out of context, because election is not about election day. The intimidation, scare mongering and other bull ****, excuse my french that occur before election swaying voters to vote otherwise because of fear of what may come to them if they make other choice greatly and unfairly impacts on the election results. The ruling APRC uses the voting statistic to intimidate regions where the opposition votes high, and threatening them with no development from Government, in effect saying because of their choices their taxes will be collected but will be used elsewhere. This illegal but it is a tactic use many times by the ruling party and its agents. Sadly our opposition do not seem to have the pre-conditions going into the election. Yes they have air time from GRTS but they do not say what other outputs from GRTS radio and TV are acceptable or otherwise considered electioneering for ruling party. |

Janyanfara, don't be too quick to throw in wet towel. Remember Gaddafi laid claim over power. How did he end ? Jammeh will one day hate all that he is craving for. Cheating does not pay. Honest people enjoy better peace of mind. |
