COURTESY OF MAAFANTA.COM, TO FOWARD THIS POEM

"Gambia - Autopsy

By Abdoulie Sey

Oh my God our beloved Gambia!
Oh my God our beloved country!
See what has happened to your wretched soul!
That you feel not the suffering of the downtrodden masses
See what has become of your once strong and brave people
That they cower in silence and demean their worth at the sight of a penny
See what has become of our collective patrimony!
That we crave not for deliverance from this embarrassing culture of
mediocrity
See what has become of our collective pride
That we have not the courage to hail truth and scorn lies
See what has become of our collective sanity
That we perpetually let imposters delude us with threats and subterfuge
See what has become of our collective being
That we grow numb to the courage born out of patriotic longings
See what has become of our quiet, honest peace
That we feel the chaotic strains of our oppression
See what has become of your proud place in history
That you shun change and dance not to destiny’s drumbeat
See what has happened to Chief Manneh! Deyda Hydara! Omar Barrow!
See what has happened to our Gambianess
That you have allowed our body politic to rot and smell bad
But Gambia must rise and rise once again it should
From this spell of tyranny that asphyxiates us
We shall survive and fulfill our date with destiny
Remember Gaddafi, Mubarak and Mengistu!
Gambia take heart for God must deliver us!

Here is another nice poem from Mathew (kali) Jallow

Poem: Free Gambia!

http://www.gainako.com/news/news/2011/11/29/a-poem-free-gambia.html

Uncle Mathew,

This is a nicely worded poem with its stanzas standing aloft high. Like Demba would like to comment, it touches our nolstalgic memories. As a young farmer back then, i missed the smell of the cow dung, especially during the rainy season, the milking and herding of cattle. It was just a rare experience in life that I will ever cherish. Nothing pleases me more in life than following a large herd of cattle, watching the cows graze in the meadows and hills, round and round about.

(achuu deh...wona maideh tan yurminee) On a last note, there is no giving up, as long as we are fighting a just battle. The hour might be long and threatening more darkness, but such is what comes with dictatorship. certainly a day will come when all will be over with. Let us all combine efforts and widen the momentum.

Thank you for a refreshing poem.

Regards,

Yero
