DAILY OBSERVER NEWS I will resign any day I lose Gambia’s interest at heart Says President Jammeh, as he meets URR delegation
"The president of the Republic has once again expressed his commitment to the development of the country, vowing to “leave office” any day he loses interest on the way forward, progress and development of the country.
His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh was speaking Monday evening at State House in Banjul while presiding over a meeting he had with a high-powered delegation from the Upper River Region (URR).
The delegation, which was led by Governor Omar Khan and comprised of the region’s Council of Elders, APRC regional executive committee, women and youth representatives, and the URR lawmakers was accompanied to the presidency by the mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and APRC national mobiliser, Yankuba Colley.
The delegation’s move was among other things meant to reassure the Gambian leader of the region’s undivided loyalty to the ruling party in the forthcoming election, as well as seek his assistance in terms of mobility with a view to boosting their mobilisation efforts at the grassroots for a historic victory for the party in the region.
At the meeting, which was also attended by Cabinet ministers, President Jammeh stressed that he stands for any cause that will move the country forward, and that he puts his life to whatever will protect the interest of Gambians for the country to move forward.
“I swear that any day that I will not have the interest of the Gambia in my heart is the day I will step down. This is what is between me and God and the Gambians,” he stated.
The Gambian leader, who was thankful to URR delegation for their move, assured the region of his continuous support and consideration. He told them that whatever they had tabled before him was something that he has promised them from 1994 to date.
He said: “Since 1994 to date, I have never been to anywhere in this country where people requested something and are not part of the promise I made. Someone has stated that if what I have done in the past 17 years was done by the First Republic, then The Gambia today will be among powerful nations that are highly developed.
But before talking about the Jawara regime that lasted for 30 years, let’s ask the British colonial masters what they have done in their 400 years rule in the country? If they had done something here in addition to Jawara’s 30 years rule, then UK would not have led us in terms of development. The West should be thankful to us [Africans] because what they have was taken away from us but instead they are insulting us.”
Election Commenting on the forthcoming November 2011 Presidential Election, President Jammeh reiterated that the ballot will be one in which the citizens choose the path to prosperity and continuous development or the path to retrogression.
“They know that the opposition will not win in the coming. Anybody who wants to jeopardize the existing peace and development in this country and plunge us into backwardness, you are asking for serious trouble,” the Gambian leader warned.
He averred that he has and will continue to do what is required of him development wise, asserting that such is what is binding him and the citizens, as well as God.
He continued: “Whatever I don’t do, God has not given me, but whatever is given to me by God, you will see that. So the forthcoming election will be one for people to choose for progress or retrogression because I had told you that whether it is an election or coup, let no one think of that.
I swear that if I didn’t betray God and the Gambian people, election did not bring me to power and will not ballot vote me out. So everyone will decide in this election whether they will move forward or backward.”
The president emphasised that development projects such as hospitals, schools, good roads, tractors, water and electricity supplies and others that will improve the livelihood of the people are for those that vote for progress in the forthcoming election. This, he stated, is anchored on the principle that government cannot give development to everyone at a go, and hence will give it to those that support his government.
“Since 2001 I have been saying this and that is why now if development comes, I don’t have two minds of who will first get it – I give it to those that voted me,” he concluded.
Speaking earlier, the Attorney General and minister of Justice, Edward Gomez, who doubles as the APRC URR liaison officer harped on the development strides made by the Gambian leader, saying that the citizenry should be thankful to God for blessing the country with such a leader as He [God] could have given Gambians a leader who will forget his responsibilities to them.
He stressed that what is binding on the citizens is to pray to God for the existing peace and progress in the country to flourish. While describing President Jammeh as sympathetic and generous, Minister Gomez said he is particularly impressed with his God-fearing nature and piousness, citing the numerous mosques he constructed as well as the pilgrimage opportunities for Gambians.
The Justice minister then assured that as far as the URR is concerned, they are ready to break record in the upcoming election; one he said will go down well in the annals of history.
The Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters minister, Lamin Kaba Bajo expressed similar sentiments, while urging citizens not to be fooled by the empty promises that have always been the hallmark of the opposition. He reminded the party militants that the opposition will not relent as their survival depends on that venture.
Minister Bajo also challenged the party militants to open up to newcomers. Speaker after speaker among the URR delegation paid glowing tribute to President Jammeh for the development achieved in his 17-year leadership, ranging from schools to electricity and good roads, as well as the Ramadan gift to the Muslims.
Aja Mariam Jaw, the women representative at the meeting and a councillor at the Basse Area Council thanked the president for the tractors he donated to women, while assuring him that the entire URR is united in voice and come November 24th, will vote en-mass for the ruling party.
Hammeh Jabou Krubally, regional APRC chairman hailed the president for the reduction in the price of cooking oil in this holy month, while also commending his anti-poverty eradication efforts. He further commended the transformation of the region by the Jammeh Administration.
He however appealed to the president to come to their aid and address the mobility constraints in the region. Kibiri Jakuraka, who spoke on behalf of the Council of Elders, assured the president of their continued loyalty, while stating that one of the objectives of the Council is to settle internal disputes among themselves, in order to avoid going to the courts.
The NAM for Basse Constituency and APRC desk officer for the region, Honourable Sellu Bah said the 2011 presidential tour has proven the sceptics wrong, noting that the tour indeed proved that all Gambians are behind the president.
Mawdo Susso, youth mobiliser in the region expressed similar sentiments. The meeting was chaired by Mayor Yankuba Colley.

It is most sickening to see this level of self perpetration and twisted deception. Mr Jammeh has no interest of Gambia at heart but his selfish get-rich-quick reasons for taking up guns seizing power by force. He knows that for a fact and just twisting.
What has he done for Gambia ?
What has he done FOR himself.
That's where the judgement lies not what Jawara did in 30 or the British in 400 years. It is no true that Britain ruled Gambia for 400 years.
Jammeh has to be realistic and stop this child play. He cannot bend the facts of history to suit selfish desires. We are sick and tired with this game of deception. Grow up Mr Jammeh. Gambia is a nation not your personal estate. |

Kobo, how about this one from the Griot Paper????
"His recent remark to the people of URR that he would quit his position any day he loses the interest of the country at heart shows his ever increasing commitment to the fulfillment of the needs and aspirations of the people".
Are you serious???? Is there anything in this statement that shows an iota of resemblance of "fulfillment of the needs and aspirations of the people"?
Did the Gambian people tell this man he should rule them until he loses their interest???
Did our people tell him they don't have any other person than this man???
Which leader in his right mind loses the interest of a country???
This is damn serious and we should take note of these Daily Observer Griots. They are so ignorant it is not even funny...
Why do President Jammeh think he is the only one entitled to rule the Gambia until he wishes not to do so any more?
Why does he think he loves Gambia more than anyone of us?
Why can't this man and his enemies (supporters) pay close attention to what is happening around the world... Libya - Gadafi who controlled and pretty much owned everything Libyan???
These people I swear they hate President Jammeh!!! They want him to go down in history in the ugliest of manners....
I am so embarrassed for our country!!! mental slavery for real!!!!!!! |

There is some irony here... Mali kunda is actually where Sergeant Ello Jallow the soldier who was allegedly killed mysteriously is from.
I bet you there is more resentment of the President than they are showing him... They will never forgive him for allegedly taking away one of their best sons and hopes...
President Jammeh has a special way of enslaving people...

1. RELATED QUESTION for Gambian youths and families.
2. EXTRACTED FROM DAILY OBSERVER UNDER 1. ABOVE;
"Best emerging region The president also seized the opportunity to announce a big reward for any administrative region that records a 95 per cent vote for the ruling party in the forthcoming election.
He said: “Any region that emerges as first and polls 95% of votes for the APRC in the upcoming election, the farmers of that region will never bend down again in farming. The women of that region also will never use their hand to pound as that will be done by machines; and before 2016 Presidential Election, most of the APRC militants in that region will go for pilgrimage to Mecca.” " |

This is the most insincere and openly deceptive statement from a man calling himself well loved national president. It is very unfair that Jammeh uses state resources to corrupt the population this blatant ways. Jammeh has to live clean and to desist from making these irresponsible and politically incorrect statements. Very unjust !!!! |

THE POINT NEWS Election is a matter of choice - Jammeh tells Banjulians
"Monday, September 05, 2011
President Yahya Jammeh has opined that election is a matter of choice, and stressed that the practice of staying away from voting during elections will not only be classified as an act of defiance, but lack of interest in the way the country is governed and disloyalty to the state.
Jammeh, who was speaking last Thursday during a meeting with APRC party bigwigs from Banjul, also called on Gambians to exercise their constitutional rights and register a huge turn-out during election day, noting that it is only by voting that one can secure scholarships from his government.
The meeting by members of the ruling APRC top echelon from Banjul, who gathered at the presidency to renew what they said was their total loyalty to the Gambian leader, followed similar meetings by bigwigs of the ruling party from other regions across the country and the Kanifing Municipality.
According to the Gambian leader, voting in elections is a yardstick to measure patriotism. He told the meeting that it is through the support of Gambians, especially those he regards as the good citizens, that he was able to register the type of development people are talking about.
While underscoring the importance of the forthcoming presidential election, the fourth of its kind since 1994, slated for 24th November, President Jammeh called on supporters of the ruling APRC party and the electorates in general to do what is right.
In his view, any member of the electorate who does not vote in the forthcoming election will be classified as being part of the opposition.
[blue]“Anyone who attains voting age and fails to cast his/her vote in the election will not benefit from my government’s development projects and programs,” he said, adding that even those who do not want development need to exercise their constitutional rights to show people which political party they support.
Jammeh, who will be seeking a fourth term of office in the November polls, advised supporters of the APRC party not to listen to the opposition, which he said “do not have good intentions” for this country, and “have not done anything good” for this country. “If the opposition believes in the existence of the Almighty Allah, then they will praise the government if it does something good,” he added.
He further stated that the type of opposition that exists in this country are those bent on blocking any development project earmarked for this country by coming up with things that will make such projects stop or be unsuccessful.
President Jammeh commended Banjulians for their support for him and the APRC party since 1994, while enjoining parents to make sure that their family members who have acquired a voter’s card vote in the forthcoming polls. “It is the duty of all parents to make sure their family members are not left behind,” he noted.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice President and minister of Women’s Affairs, Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, applauded the Banjulians for their support for President Jammeh and the APRC party, while calling on them to remain behind Jammeh and the APRC for good.
VP Njie-Saidy called on the Banjulians to be united in bringing the remains of the opposition to the APRC party.
Mambury Njie, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, said what is important now is for the citizens to turn out and vote massively for President Jammeh in the November polls.
The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Fatou Lamin Faye, who also doubles as the APRC liaison officer for Banjul, expressed similar sentiments.
Many speakers who spoke at the meeting praised President Jammeh for all what he has done for them, and Gambians in general. Like those from other regions, Banjulians expressed their conviction that come 24th November, President Jammeh will pass the ballot test quite handsomely.
Among them was the Mayor of Banjul, Samba Faal; Alhagie Biri Njie, the regional APRC chairman, Aji Yama Njie, the regional youth mobiliser; Aji Fatou Bah, deputy national women’s mobiliser and Alhagie Mbye Chaw vice-chairman of the council of elders of Banjul.
Meanwhile, President Jammeh also on Friday held a similar meeting with a delegation from the North Bank Region headed by Governor Edward Seckan.
Speakers including Hon. Suku Singhateh, member for Lower Baddibu and APRC desk officer for the region, and Governor Edward Seckan, who all assured President Jammeh of their loyalty and a landslide victory in the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary polls.

Yaya Jammeh is so corrupt. He plays dirty poli-tricks for bare survival. It is time that Jammeh faces reality and leave politics to decent hands. This is not taking the nation anywhere good.
Where is he getting all that money from. Of course money laundering, drugs and other illicit means are at play.
