On 22 July 1994 was when democracy was slaid broad day light in Gambia. Armed forces seized power and promised returning to barracks after two years transition to civilian rule. Leader of the coup Yaya Jammeh denounced politics calling politicians dirty people. He hated politics more than Toubab1020. he called politicians liars. One reason for unlawful seizure of power according Jammeh was because former president Jawara stayed for 30 years and colonial powers ruled Gambia for 300 years. Jammeh warned Gambians that nobody will ever be allowed to stay in power long enough. Now he wants to stay in power until death do part him and the steel chair.
recentluy Jammeh said no voting or coup will unseat him but only God's hands will pull him from power.
What Jammeh and his supporters call celebrations, oppressed and hard hit Gambians sit mourning. Whatever it is, democracy certainly fell dead in Gambia on 22 July 1994. Today 22 July 2011 marks 17 years since Gambia became political orphan as democracy was murdered in day light.

Jammeh and his gun men sent lethal shots through the heart of Gambian democracy. The death of democracy and rule of law in Gambia now holds. Gambia is bleeding profusely to death. |

Karamba the 22nd july 1994 marked the end of a single group living on the sweats of the average Gambians. The 22nd july put an end to a stagnant 5year development program that was always said to come after every election Jawara snatched. 22nd july 1994 was the first time the voice of the poor was heard when poor people like my humble self was given audiance by the then afprc to lay complain about not buying street tap water in Brikama. So, maybe you do not have a lot to celebrate on this historical day, but hundreds of thousands of Gambians do. I applaud with the loudest of all applause His ex. yahya Jammeh for his relentless effort to develop the Gambia. Maybe he needs some more advicers to guide him through human right issues, but that is lacking. Jammeh is not everywhere, so he relies on his service sectors to report to him and if they report any threats, he is bound to act. I hope his advisers advises him to release Dr. Janneh and instead tap into his vast knowledge. However, I still salute Mr. Jammeh for his developmental will for the Gambia. |

Thank you Breadman. Let's take it that Gambian people stand ready to buy all your stock on Jammeh's elaborate development politics there are still some concerns. Basically, there is a need for orderly change of power. Jammeh came through a disorderly process. For him to threaten that no bullets no ballot will dislodge him is too much. He does not love Gambia more than the million plus ordinary citizens. If it is sycophants who induce Jammeh to overstay because of their selfish reason, when the big regret comes Jammeh's way, the same people will not be there for him.
Sincerely, I am more worried for Jammeh than I am about him. I do not hate him as Sister Omega charges me, though I never mention to Sister Omega that I care for Jammeh. After all he (Jammeh) is another member of the human family. People are unfair to him by pushing him to persist ruling for life. Done, his bit, let him step out. More respects to you Bread man. Don't let bad society destroy your good man if you so care about him. A troubled ending is no good deal. |
