I watched CNN this weekend to learn of the alleged horror of rape by Congolese soldiers. A case in point was when the soldiers were alleged to have raped two sisters less than 11 years and died subsequently having previously killed their parents. They then seized the brother who is 15 years old raped him until he passed out. They told him that his sisters died because they could not satisfy them and as such he was to be raped.
The boy had been stitched by doctors and is recovering but now an orphaned.
The president was shown the reports on a lap top computer and he promised to take action. However, what kind of an army set up to protect the people will do this? In whose name are they doing this? This is a country about 25% the size of the United States, rich in diamonds, gold, timber, fertile land, rain forest etc yet civilization seems to be passing them un-noticed.
The paradox of Africa is a cause for concern. When will we see the light and lead our people into development. For Goodness sake, we want peace in our continent. Every African should protest that such atrocities would not be committed in our name.

Most bad acts in this world are commited by straight men on women......or failing that weak men......... The armies of all countries have a problem keeping 100% control of the individual soldiers actions......it is the same in all countries.....There will always be a few men that use the disguise of the army to be barbaric.eg uk soldiers in cyprus had a very bad press a few years ago, usa army in iraq......and so on.... |

No I am not gay...... but I dont believe in doomsday.....
IF i believed in God it would be a kind and loving god that forgave people for their humanity.......
I dont think SEX is a sin.....I think it can be a warm and loving act between two people. The gender of the people is immaterial aslong as they are consenting. |

No one can make you to beleive what you don't want to. Its your right to calim that.
Enjoy the SEX privately and live others to enjoy theirs privately. Choose when to do it and how to do it as an adult. Thats your private life. |

Hay hold on sitasungo, You may be right but Iwant you remind my self of a certain day during the presidential campaign,Soldiers at the denton bridge oh God oh God, you would wish you were not there as well.Women were thrown on the ground stripped naked and some soldiers were stamping their feet on their..... Our soldiers may be half better for they don't start rapping yet but I would not be the least surprised if they do it one day for when I witnessed that incident at the Denton bridge,I washed my hands off our brothers in uniform. There then I told my self what man is capable of when it comes to harming somebody. In my humble opinion, rape is more about power and control than sex. It has been with us since the time of the Bible. It doesn't make it right. When will it stop the killing, the torture, the political upheaval, the wars and the accompanying rapes?
I feel sorry for the children who have been terrorized and have had their family taken away from them. What can be done about this? |

Yes rape is often about power and control and that is why it is common place in times of war. Soliders in groups commit acts that they would never do as an individual in peace time. I think it is true of ALL armies, but to a greater or lesser extent. Alot depends on the strength of the leadership of the men, whether they respect them and are under control or are they just running wild, like a pack of dogs? |

this is worse than a pack of dogs. they are just fools. infact its typical of wars in africa i guess its more about power, revenge and trying to get to core of the 'enemy'. most of the time these idle men who are not soldiers are just boys with AK 47s controlled by warlords. often they are drunk and under drugs.
it all boils down to lack of objective, poor leadership and infact war is just the only preoccupation/job they have ever known. it bonds the men and hides their grievances and/or laziness. if you go to Liberia & Sierra Leone you will find them regretting their past simple because they now realise they did not achieve anything after years of fighting.
it must be pointed out that the UN is also partly guilty of this as its own peacekeepers are invovled in sexual exploitation of ordinary people and refugees.
we must not also forget that present in the Congo is the largest ''peacekeeping'' force in the World! |

njucks this boils down to no one being brought to trial. when was the last time a government stuck up for the treatment of its people against peackeepers. the news we hear is not fresh news it is old news that is being brought to out attention. the counries that the peacekeepers belong to are not held repsonsible. If it is in africa and the peackeepers are african you woul dhave to find them first. if they made it an offense in the first place that would help. in some countries rape is not recognised. If the women are in camps they should be safe but they are not. |

Abraham, I don't understand your words. These poor children haven't been raped because someone just felt 'sexual', but because these marodeurs wanted to show that they were in control, that they were the ones who had the power to do whatever they liked. This is the usual motivation behind every rape, in war and in peace. |

Abraham......why are you scared of strong women?
I started of my adult life as a very shy young women. As I get older (45) I am growing in strength and confidence as I deal with what life throws at me.
Last year I got divorced. It was my choice, my husband would still like to be married to me. I was with him from the age of 19.
I am a teacher, so have to be self disciplined, motivated, organised, and have self control as well as the natural authority to be in control of others.
Strangely enough most men seem to prefer the older more assertive me to the little girl I was! |
