I like the idea of extended family model rather than parent/children unit. It is great to see grand parents/uncles/aunties/cousins/nephews etc living together.
I found this to be strength of Gambian society. It is more social, more economical and efficient.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

This is the Best poll so far and it actually reflects the unbiased opinions of the pollers. I for one think our traditional ways are conflicting with the realities of the 21st century, Everyday the bread winner at someone's family is sent to Jail for corruption, malpractice etc,I think our traditional ways are becoming outdated nowadays...............Peace |

A very important poll. Turk, I fully agree with you that the extended family system is by far preferable to the neurotic nuclear family. But, Momodou, why should there be only one bread winner? If people depend on only one person, this person soon will be at least overworked, if not becoming corrupt and criminal – Moe names the problem.
Yet I don’t think that the small family system is the adequate model for the 21st century. Very soon we’ll see that successful societies don’t give up the extended family system, but encourage and practice the cooperation of all its members. |

My family at the moment includes three generations, I am in the middle. The only problem in this family, me, is the minority and discriminated/dominated by females.

When you speak of an "extended family", are you refering to members living under the same roof, or in close proximity to each other? |

I think definition is that they are living together and there is only one budget. |
