DAILY OBSERVER NEWS Repatriated Gambians hail President Jammeh As they gather at July 22nd Square to show gratitude UNDR http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/repatriated-gambians-hail- president-jammeh-as-they-gather-at-july-22nd-square-to-show-gratitude

INTERESTING HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAILY OBSERVER;

1. JAMMEH'S BENEVOLENCE D1MILLION: "The Gambian leader then went on to pledge the sum of D1 million for the returnees, but stressed that it is up to them to decide what they will do with that money. He then suggested that they set up a Trust Fund where the money can [be used] to respond to some of the problems that might arise. The president further suggested that those without skills can form an association and operate a business where some will sell on behalf of the group. "

2.POLITICS "Commenting on politics, President Jammeh recalled that when he was taking the mantle of leadership of this country, he did not have any political party and that he stood and swore that he will develop this country with a very clean heart. “In fact in those days the issue of political party was not in my mind because I came for a short period to remedy the situation and exit. I didn’t want something like political party because it brings disrespect. But a human being only chose what he or she wants and God give the verdict,” he stated.

He added: “So it is God who said I will have a political party which is APRC.” The Gambian leader, while reiterating that he will not campaign in the forthcoming November 24th Presidential Election, re-emphasised that it is only his party, the APRC, that can bring the much desired development and progress in this country. “Anyone who wants progress and you want your country to move forward, join APRC party because our intention has been since 1994 to make the entire country a city-state and this is what is happening now,” he said.

President Jammeh also predicted that he will sweep the November Presidential Election in polls that will be free, fair, and transparent. “Since 1996 up to date, those who are saying that I am not working let those people show me even a farm that they cultivate. 2011 election will be a test game in that it will distinguish between those who want progress and those who refuse progress. Any community that does not want development can throw their votes to the opposition. This is why I have stressed that I will not campaign for this year’s election. So it is up to Gambians to chose and in doing so you should know what benefit you will drive in voting for someone,” he stated."
