Is Gambian/African Diaspora (AD) a blessing or a curse to the modernization, economic development and political stability of Africa?
AD is a very complex notion/phenomenon/characterization that has no absolute definition. In this context the definition given by Wikipedia (below)is very inclusive, in my opinion, therefore a good point of departure.
The African diaspora was the movement of Africans and their descendants to places throughout the world - predominantly to the Americas, and also to Europe, the Middle East and other places around the globe. [1][2][3] The term has been historically applied in particular to the descendants of the Africans who were enslaved and shipped to the Americas by way of the Atlantic slave trade, with the largest population in Brazil (see Afro-Brazilian). In modern times, it is also applied to Africans who have emigrated from the continent in order to seek education, employment and better living for themselves and their children. People from Sub-Saharan Africa, including many Africans, number at least 800 million in Africa and over 140 million in the Western Hemisphere, representing around 14% of the world's population.[4][5] It is believed that this diaspora has the potential to revitalize Africa. Primarily, many academics, NGOs, and websites such as Social Entrepreneurs of the African Diaspora[6] view social entrepreneurship as a tool to be used by the African diaspora to improve themselves and their continent…..

Why did you say that Moe? I think the Diaspora wants freedom, rule of law, basic human right, press freedom;independent judges and a vibrant civil society. These fore mentioned are enjoyed in the West and the Diaspora thinks the people back home deserve the same freedoms |

Don't mind Moe terangba he wants the diasporian Gambians to believe that Yaya Jammeh can cure Aids and have the spritual power to fight demons to build sankuleh kunda brigde.I'm sorry Moe the Gambians abroad have teasted the value of true democray and they are experiencing its benefit, there is no way a dictator can pool wool over their faces. This is the beef they have with dictator jammeh. |

Oh my God Moe, I think you need to think before you leap. Your above statement has a very wide diamention and I wonder at the time of writing it whether you had in mind if it includes yourself and any close family member you may have here in the diaspora? For I belief some of them are still Gambians in the diaspora even if you feel you are not any more! |

Terangba, I will call you Tee- Baby , Are you really serious about what the Gambian diaspora stands for. look for starters, these runaways migratd for economical reasons and not adament about the so called change they preach. Look this group of so called elites lost touch with reality and attempted to cast blame on the most vulnerable in their society. We all know what the Gambian Woman goes through and the tragedy bestowed upon them by MEN. But here we have the diaspora attacking and chastisizing the likes of Jegg Cham, Fatoumatta Jahumpa, Isatou Njie Saidy and the list goes on. I dont think anyone takes the time to understand the implications.
Not only Government officials but private citizens are constantly highlighted all in the name of undermining the APRC regime. I have been listening and watching for a long time and thats why I despise these people. The diaspora is made of folks who are completely out of touch with reality and the basic foundations to build true democratic institutions they are not interested in.The West did't have any thing handed to them on a silver platter, they fought for it........................Peace |

Not only the Sankuley Kunda Bridge but what about Sanneh-Mentering, I did not make these things up and neither did Jammeh , It's a Gambian thingy. About tasting democracy how many are willing to do what it takes to achieve it + = 0.
What the Diaspora wants is too far fetched in a country with such a low literacy rate and no political participation and this includes the diaspora itself...........................Peace |

Run away in the diaspora thats more like it Jayanfara. The excuse was lack of educational facilities to excel and search for greener pastures. Whats the problem afterall some of the diaspora graduated and don't wanna go home anymore. Its all economics, like I said what it takes they don't want and every single one of them expects to be rewarded somehow for being gone. The diaspora is a stranger in it's birth country.............................Peace |

I thought you had more ammo but it's more like a "Futa bluff". The women you enquired about worked for NGO's and got themselves caught up so try again. There is not a single policy out there, throughout the whole of Africa that surpassess the Women empowerment programme in Gambia right now. You should be fully supportive of all the developmental aspirations of the Country not to mention "Girls Education progrramme for free". If anyone understands the major issues in Gambia it's the APRC regime this I can assure you. In 1987 as a little fella trekking up country with my Toubab friends once we pulled up to a village and everyone ran into their houses, being one of those inquisitive fools I enquired and was assured they are not used to strangers driving up to their villages late. We had to wait for the Elder to come out and talk to us. 20 year old women looked like old women atleast 55 years of age, mainly due to intense labor and hardwork. Once again it reminded me how under-priviledged some of the communities are and lacked basic sustinance like a health centre or better yet a school. Their basic needs were not catered for and neglected. I had a good examination of how priviledged we were as city kids with all the opportunies at our door steps. Girls were up for grabs at 12 years old,I know you are wondering where am going with this but check this out, the simplest things were brought to them by none other than the agents of CHANGE. trip on this now.........................................Peace |

You are so out of touch and you think you know any better... you had a little clue about the kind of sufferings that went on during Jawara's regime but you ignorantly are ignoring the same exploitation of women that is even more apparent today under this regime than what it was before...
See ignorance is a serious disease. You think building empty schools, clinics, without the required staff, education materials or medicines are what development is all about...
How do you expect young girls to get free education when their parents cannot even affort a bag of rice to eat at home? How do you expect those kids to learn? What is the agricultural policy of this regime? How much groundnuts are they buying from the farmers?
Yes, we heard of the single tractors given to Seefoos of a whole District... and how do you expect that to serve a whole farming community?
How many farmers are harvesting as much as this President having farms everywhere in the country?
How clueless are you about an educational system that pushes every child up to grade six and then they can't get to any place else? Skills centers? Jobs for kids that drop out in six grade or grade 9? This is what you call a good education policy.... Do you know how much prostitution there is of our young sisters in the streets of Banjul and Senegambia today? That is women empowerment MOE???
The empowerment of women slogan in the Gambia is a big lie and deceptive campaign to rally women OSSOBIES behind this President and you know it. What empowerment programs are you talking about? How many of these woman have been humiliated and their husbands kicked out of work and cannot provide for the kids any more? How many of them disappeared with no trace? How about compensate the mothers of those students? That is women empowerment MOE????
How morally bankrupt is that Mr. Moe? Was it not Ms. Sarata Jaabi who was imprisioned with a 9 months old baby? How about that for women empowerment. I must tell you that your story about women empowerment in the Gambia is false, false and false. The women are as hungry as anybody else in Gambia...
So please find a group of people to try to convince about development ideals of this regime and not here who have witnessed what is going on across the world.
No amount of false suppression of the truth will stop us from going after your King's ignorant policies, dishing out resources by a poor soldier who had nothing except his shoes now becoming a millionaire. Where did that money come from that is given to all these religious hypocrits and other interest groups to support the APRC. Is that your model of development and democracy?
You are so clueless Moe and please safe your self some embarrassment by staying away from such topics you don't know anything about... it is a shame and you know it.... |

If you had half the knowledge I have in regards to my motherland most likely you would be a professor Saine . Yeah I said it , ya'll some ignorant fools, Let me tell you something about white elephant projects. They are a leap of faith, these facilities are all staffed whether their competency level is up to standard or not, trust me its better than it just being a dream and the average age of Gambians as per the World health Organization reflects a drastic and major change. The facilities are there right now what are you gonna do as an educated Gambian which is subjected to scrutiny coz I think otherwise.
Ya'll running away from your realities, why arent you at your Village teaching and living, appreciating your little input where you come from. Instead you are here talking about arresting me and Jailing me when you have no goddamn authority and NEVER will. The Issue is that most of ya'll with your little education think someone owes you something.
"Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country"
I forgot ya'll economic migrants and terrorist so that will never apply!!
Throughout the history of Gambia "Aussobie" is a show of solidarity and this can be witnessed at churches and political organizations. Try something new instead of whats culturally acceptable. Sir Dawda had the whole country in "Aussobie" even Schools do it.
Ya'll are runaways DBaldeh first of all you are a Malian anyways. The Gambia government is providing the required acceptable development aspirations starting with an interstate system, Schools, and health facilities. Your hopelessness and unwillingess to sacrifice for your home country is whats evident.
What do you mean by the average Gambian cannot afford a bag of Rice? Their Parents can't afford a bag of rice yet they have two smart phones and by the way the government is not obligated to buy a goddamn thing from the farmers, governments role is as facilitators.
Girls are getting free education and if your child has most of her basic eduaction for free, parents should prepare their kids for the future instead of Marrying the next available 12 year old in town.
Agricultural policy!! , well go look at the IMF report it reflects growth and mainly responsible for the rapid growth of the economy.
Prostitution is the oldest trade and your sisters aint immune to it. Gambian women love extravagant life styles so the tourism industry caters for that. The reason for being there is personal.
It was those foolish cowboys that misled those ignorant journalist to commit a crime and hence where arrested. 2Pacs Mother was in Jail prior to his birth yet the American system is acceptable to you.If you had any kind of intelligence I would have engaged you so go get Bokarr Sey and Baba Galleh and their notorious professor Saine.
I am not here to convince anyone with common sense, Am stating my point which is subjected to scrutiny if you never knew. Your constitution and the amendments thereafter allowed Mr jammeh toengage in business and his sponsors made it clear any Gambian is eligible for help if youre interested. Try again dont ask me where he got his money from when his business are being supported by interest groups promising and fulfilling the same for all Gambians from all walks of life.
