Gambia spurns Ouattara as I Coast president
Apr 16 2011 3:13PM

The Gambian government said on Saturday it would not recognise Alassane Ouattara as president of Ivory Coast following the ousting of his rival Laurent Gbagbo with the help of UN and French forces.

"The Gambia government would not recognise any president, including president Ouattara, or government in Africa that has been imposed by forces outside the African continent for whatever reason," a statement said.

"We know what those governments and presidents stand for in Africa as they loot African resources on behalf of the powers that brought them to power", the statement from the office of President Yahya Jammeh added.

The statement, which was also carried by state broadcaster GRTS, called for "an impartial and comprehensive investigation into all the atrocities carried out in Ivory Coast by a team of honest and decent Allah-fearing people."

"Alassane Ouattara and his forces cannot go scot-free and blame everything on President Laurent Gbagbo, who according to the Ivorian constitution is the legitimate president of Ivory Coast", it said.

Forces loyal to both sides have been accused of massacres in recent weeks as Ouattara, recognised as president by the United Nations and the African Union following a disputed vote in November, fought to take power.

"As far as we are concerned, the only solution to avert a long drawn-out civil war with all its attendance consequences in Ivory Coast is to reorganise presidential elections in the shortest possible time," the Gambian government said.

"In the meantime, an interim government of national unity should be formed without Alassane Ouattara as he also has a lot to answer for," it said.

"One thing that is very clear to all Africans today is that the plot to re-colonise Africa is very real and we most stand up to it."

Banjul called on the UN to ensure the safety, protection, and well being of Gbagbo, "the constitutionally legal president of Ivory Coast", and set him free.

"He cannot be tried while Alassane Ouattara, the internationally selected president of Ivory Coast, goes scot free after massacring thousands of civilians just to be president", the statement said.

Events in Ivory Coast "have vindicated us in our earlier assertion that Western neocolonialist-sponsored agents in Africa that owe allegiance only to themselves and their Western masters are ready to walk on thousands of dead bodies for the Presidency," it charged.

Looks like Gambian government and Jammeh are sharing your concern too.

p.s. lol

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

These couple of lines sum up the administration's concerns.

"The Gambia government would not recognise any president, including president Ouattara, or government in Africa that has been imposed by forces outside the African continent for whatever reason," a statement said.

Oh yes,.... I know lets blame those Imperialist powers of the past, look Africa Nations are doing fine, look at MANY countries in Africa to see the advancements they have made on their own since the days of colonisation.

Shut up Yaya Jammeh! You have no shame in this world. Don't you realise how foolish you appear? Who in the civilised world will take you serious?

Come on Yaya, stop playing with yourself. You think people don't know what you are gambling? Looking like you speak for the criminal Gbagbo when in reality it is all about how you wished to be treated when faced with the blunt condition. Stop playing coward Yaya!!

OK, I understand now Africans do have power now you expect them to do better, but, honestly, your not considering the negative impact of colonization is very unfair. The impact of colonization is too deep, poor African countries are so behind, they just start-over everything only 40 years ago. Africans are not born any lesser than European, however, they did start their nation building process too late and with a lots of disadvantages. Europe became this after years of independence(except the balkan invasion of Ottoman Empire ended 300 years ago, and Spain invasion 1000 years ago, and Hun invasion 2000 years ago). They did not face any foreign colonization by other race since Atilla Hun and Ottomans. They had free labor and natural resources for 500 years. Africans did not have any of the advantages they had. Do you think European are smarter!!!!

As if Ouattara even know there is man in this universe called Yahya Jammeh. He is the least on any African leader's mind, so let him rant and quake in his pants.

Santanfara,

Yaya Jammeh is never bored about telling lies. If you read even carelessly, it comes very clear that what he thundered from that slanderous mouth is exactly his own nasty conduct. Read the bold green and tell me if Jammeh is not simply referring to his own filthy nature.

Turk,
"The impact of colonization is too deep, poor African countries are so behind, they just start-over everything only 40 years ago. Africans are not born any lesser than European,"
I accept that but by the same token they (most African nations)have had the opportunity to learn from the mistakes that the colonial powers have made and to take what good things the colonial powers have brought to their country, colonisation is no longer tolerated.
Turk Colonisation is a giant topic I am sure and we could go on and on,don't want to do that, let me finish by saying countries OUTSIDE Africa have taken different paths after their independence,India, America ( ) to name just 2 adopted vastly differing paths and now are very successful countries.

Interesting things happen now-a-days. Jammeh is speaking as if his hands and claws are clean of any crime. Certainly, he is right to feel that way, knowing fully well that the wind of change is still blowing, circulating within radius of those clinging onto power, combined with the fact that such a powerful wind will not spare him in the long run. If he is crying for his own downfall, I will personally will give him a bucket to fill his tears with....weep Jammeh, weep!

From the look of things, Jammeh's abysmal demise is set for the shortest run in time span. The creature is finished, simple as that. Catching the wind, no, that's impossible.

The UK has no will and no money to persue any intervention in The Gambia, that's for sure.

Kobo's posting shows very clearly the thinking of the present administration.

I think also UK has no motivation for intervention. There are no conditions for any intervention in Gambia.

- There is no violance
- There is peace, functioning economy and government.
- Tourists are going and there are signifcant number of british and european expat living in Gambia and they face no danger.
- There is an election process and there is a political stability in Gambia.

So, status quo: no intervention is required.
