" National News : Wuli East Gears for By-Election By Pateh Baldeh
As the Wuli East National Assembly seat became vacant following the death of the occupant, Hon. Bekai Camara the IEC has a by election slated for which prompted a By-Election 28th of April 2011.
The nominations of candidates will be held on Monday, 18 April, 2011 at the Basse Regional office of the IEC.
This reporter has confirmed that the APRC members in the Wuli East Constituency have selected Mr. Saidou Sabally, from Passamas Fula Kunda at a meeting held at Boro Kanda Kassey village, as their party’s candidate for the April 28 by-election.
This reporter is also reliably informed that after village to village consultation delegates from villages in Wuli East assembled at Wellingara village in Wuli East to select Mr Suwaibou Touray to be a NADD candidate for the by election. This is endorsed by PDOIS. Mr. Suwaibou Touray is from Sutukoba village and contested the seat at the last general election in 2007 and lost to Mr. Bekai Camara.
A sensitisation team is encouraging the electorate in Wuli East to exercise their rights as sovereign citizens to elect their representative to the National Assembly.
The team is urging the voters of Wuli to choose wisely and select a representative who will place their interests and that of the nation uppermost on his or her agenda. It is being made clear that politics is about issues and that elections are about selecting the representative who would be promoting and defending those issues of concern to the electorate.
The electorate in Wuli East is asked to display political maturity by not allowing anyone to be induced or intimidated or drawn into the politics of insults or slander or be divided along ethnic, religious or other parochial lines; that the contest is not between tribes or villages but between the candidate of the APRC and the candidate of NADD.
