I recently saw an episode of Destination Truth in which Gambia was profiled or more accurately the ninki nanka and Kikiyoun.

For those of you who aren't familiar with "Destination Truth", it is a show in which a team goes to various places around the world to try to gather evidence on strange creatures that locals claim exists. The show was very interesting and i was surprised that this was one of the first times that I've heard of these creatures in Gambia.

Now you must be wondering why I posted this here in the Political section and not the cultural section. The reason for this is because in the beginning of the show, the researchers/investigators ran into Gambian red tape at the airport. First with their equipment not being released based on the paranoia by the officials that the crew of the show mightbe American spies.

Oh the ignorance that goes on in my Gambia today. Here was a great opportunity to expose the Gambia in somewhat of a positive light and the authorities blew it in my opinion. Even the host made it a point to point out the difficulties they encountered with the Gambian authorities.

Just imagine if the Tourism ministry had stepped in from the beginning and gave these guys a warm Gambian smiling coast welcome; assist them with logistics etc, how that positive experience would have been portrayed on the international stage. I mean it could have helped our tourism industry by peeking the interest of North Americans to consider Gambia as a potential vacation destination. But yet, we had the *****s and fools once again at the airport squashing those opportunities just like they harass visitors arriving and departing from the country.

Here are the videos form the show (there are 5 clips). View them and tell me if this was not a lost opportunity or an opportunity that could have been better handled by Jammeh's Administration.
An interesting documentary nonetheless:

Justice must be served as impunity brings more repression and corruption!
