"Some readers, mostly naysayers who are constantly motivated to nitpick, mustered the “courage” to deem the Wikileaks data on The Gambia as having “nothing” that is of importance. I was tempted to vigorously defend the significance of the US State Department having qualms about Gambian politics but decided to conserve my energies for the future when events will justify my the view that Wikileaks' activities are inter-connected with The Gambia's fate."

Interesting mate...I still believe you were/are greatly and grossly exaggerating the minuscule importance of Gambian politics in an intrinsic climate of a complex international relations environment/arena. At this point, it appears you are merely posturing and hoping something comes out in the future that will support your faulty analysis.

I am honored when you mentioned me on your blog. Your 'courage' is commendable. I will offer apology when this 'nothing' turns out to a 'watergate' of Gambia.

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

I was watching a tv forum about Turkey. There were Turkish journalist and former American official who had his secret documents were wikileaked pointing the Turkish PM could be an Islamic radical. When he was asked why/how send this information to the US foreign ministry, he answered:

quote:
One of the duty of the consular embassy in any country is; working like a reporter. There could be different kind of information that would be sent to Washington.

1. Fact based information.
2. Information Secret Service agents obtain.
3. Opinion Based information. From just observation political climate of the country.
4. Reporting debates, news, debates from TV program.
5. Even Rumors if it is valuable.

He was prepared and he brought all of the opposition charges of Turkish PM being Islamic Radical from the newspapers. He said, I reported that Turkish PM could be an Islamic Radical, because there are opposition parties, newspaper columnists and many people saying that. This information is not necessarily FACT but that is an opinion, rumor we need to consider when we are determining our foreign policy.

So, the need for intelligence of Africa about drug trade.

- There are lots of information available that African Governments not exactly democratic.
- There are lots of information available that most African Governments are corrupt.
- there are lots of information available that powerful drug cartel is using Africa as transit for their business.

Based on this information available, it is not a big surprise that American officials needs more intelligence about Gambia in terms of drug related crime or even Al-Kaida. I could even tell you that. So I guess this was the motive of nitpickers.
