GIEPA receives consortium of South Korean investors

Sep 16, 2022, 12:07 PM | Article By: Baboucarr Camara

A consortium of South Korean investors has concluded a two day fact-finding mission to The Gambia. The investors, whose coming into the country was facilitated by AFIC were received at The Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency by the director of Investment Promotion & Facilitation, Modou Lamin Sowe.

Sowe described the delegation’s visit as timely as his department has over the years developed many comprehensive investment profiles seeking to attract potential investors to the smiling coast. The multidisciplinary team led by GIEPA visited the ministers of Trade and Industry, Agriculture, Transport & Infrastructure, and Health.

Priority areas of investment by the visited ministries were presented in line with specifics outlined by the Public Private Project Unit of the Ministry of Finance. Areas identified by the visiting delegation for investment include: Banjul-Barra Bridge/tunnel construction project, digital economy, ICT innovation and information hub, river transport development, construction of Banjul shipyard, some projects in the Agriculture sector, Health sector equipment supply and maintenance as well as the construction of a first class Medical Hospital on organ transplant, special economic zone, construction of a shopping mall, and entertainment center. The move if actualised, is envisaged to project Destination Gambia as an economic hub within the sub-region and bridge the unemployment gap.
