Security features on bank notes are VITAL if the NEW GAMBIA is to be taken seriously, I hope that the D5 & D10 and the smaller denomination notes will remain and the "new family banknotes" being issued with security in mind and not just to cease the availability of the smaller denomination ones i.e. D5 D10,which are very important to MANY members of the Gambian population. I hope that consideration has been given to the material on which the notes are printed are of the MODERN materials, although more expensive than the paper versions that are in circulation at the moment are OFTEN VERY DIRTY & scruffy NOT a good advert for a country that is doing it's best to join the world of today. BIG transactions in the OLD money in the future will deserve an explaination.

The Gambia will introduce new family banknotes different from the previous ones between the next two and three months, according to the governor of the Central Bank of The Gambia, Bakary K. Jammeh.
Governor Jammeh made these remarks yesterday at the bank’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting held at Central Bank, Banjul.
“We feel that the individual faces represented in our own currency should be changed for inclusivity,” he said.
He added that they feel that The Gambia is bigger than everyone and “we have our natural resources that can be displayed on the money to represent all citizens.”
“On the new notes, when you look under ultra violet light, you will see a number of features that glow on the front of the red serial number. The note value in the centre and smaller value in two colours bottom right. On the back, the birds in the bottom right corner also glow.”
“There are also some areas of the note that just look like plain areas of print or sample lines but when using a magnifying lens, you will see that they are small letters and numbers,” Governor Jammeh said at the meeting. Author: Pa Modou Cham
