Buba Baldeh, a native of Tankong Kunda village, Sami District of the Central River Region (CRR) has been arrested by police for reportedly killing two patients at the Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital, The Point has been informed.

A source that spoke to our reporter on the condition of anonymity said the suspect was deported from Italy in May 2018. Our source further added that the suspect was escorted by the Italian authorities to the Banjul International Airport after they realised that he was mentally unstable.

He is currently on detention as police investigation into the matter continues. He was reported to have killed one Essa Waggeh, 26, of Gambisara and Girom Jatta, 36, of Abuko, both of whom were admitted at the Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital for medical attention.

Our reporter has been reliably informed that when the accused person arrived back in the country it was even difficult for him to shake hands with people. “We suspected that he was injected by the Italian authorities prior to his deportation. When he started misbehaving, he was taken to Bansang Hospital for medical treatment,” our source said.

The spokesperson of The Gambia Police Force, Lamin Njie, confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect, saying that the accused is helping the police with their investigation.

“From the information I received I cannot tell whether he has been deported or not. However, I can tell you that both the suspect and the deceased were patients of Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital.”

Narrating how the incident happened, PRO Njie said, both the suspect and the deceased were warming up around the fire place which was normal in the early morning. “On this very day, the suspect took the fire stick and smashed two other people’s head and started beating them up and eventually the two died. He was arrested by the police and helping them in their investigation,” he told our reporter.
