The national mobilizer of the opposition Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), Yankuba Colley, has suggested that the audio conversation that went viral between the party stalwarts and former President Yahya Jammeh could have been hacked.

The leaked audio has been trending on social media throughout the weekend but the question that remains unanswered is who leaked the audio?

“We are equally very surprised about how the audio went viral. I don’t think it is done by us. Who is going to do that? he queried.

“What interest can an APRC person do such a thing like that. However, we are not blaming anybody at this point in time but we are suspicious,” Mr. Colley said in a Monday telephone interview with The Point.

Ask whether he thinks it was hacked by a government agent, Mr. Colley said it is possible and they are not ruling out anything. He said the former president is a citizen of the country and that part of the agreement that was signed between Jammeh and ECOWAS mediating team during the political impasse was that he could come back to the country and even involve in politics.

Asked about the 10, 000 dollars given to him by former president Jammeh, the APRC mobilizer preferred not to say much on the matter. “Why should I shed light on money that was given to me? If you come to me and I give you money should I tell you how to spend it? So I spent the money as how I liked to spend it and I don’t owe anybody an explanation.”

He said Jammeh gave him the money and told him that one day it would benefit him, saying that Jammeh never gave him the money and instructed him to spend it on issues.

Asked again whether he knew what Jammeh meant to say he was planning something and when it succeeds everybody will hear it? Mr. Colley said he didn’t know. “We did not do anything yet as far as I am concerned. We are doing our internal investigation as at now.”

Another piece on the same topic from The Standard.

====================================================================================================July 16, 2018

A private conversation between former President Yahya Jammeh and his APRC executive members got leaked and has been making rounds on the Internet.
But while most Gambians have already heard the conversations, no one still knows how it was leaked. Many theories have it that it was deliberately leaked by the APRC bigwigs themselves to show that they and not their rival camp in the party are the ones trusted by Jammeh. However other theories said the conversation could have been recorded by the APRC bigwigs but they will not intentionally leak it given its private nature.

Last night The Standard called interim leader Fabakary Tombong Jatta who was one of the men in the audio. His phone was constantly answered by his wife who said Mr Jatta was on another line for much of the day. Another official Yankuba Colley could not be reached on the phone as his phone was off.
The party deputy leader Ousman Rambo Jatta said he was not in position to comment on the matter as his party was meeting over the matter.

In the WhatsApp conference call, Jammeh spoke about a range of issues that beset the former ruling party.
One of the things he spoke about that sent shockwaves throughout The Gambia is his rumoured comeback pedaled by mainly APRC militants.
“By Allah, everything I promised to Gambians will happen.
When it is time for me to come back [to The Gambia], no one can do anything about it. No human or jinn can stop it from happening.

“I am working on something and by the grace of Allah, it will be good,” Jammeh said.
Jammeh said he refused to respond to allegations that emanate from The Gambia because, according to him, if he speaks the whole world will shun the new government.

“I haven’t done what I am supposed to do yet. All that they are saying if I were someone else, I will talk and the whole world will turn against them but I am not supposed to talk so I will not talk. That is why I only talk to you people [APRC executives],” he added. “Nobody will betray me and then live in happiness forever,” Jammeh said in the audio.
The former President was also heard advising his part officials to avoid engaging in arguments with one another.

Since 1 December 2016 that we defenestrated Yahya Jammeh, he has overshadowed everything we do, as it were. No discussion is complete without his name being mentioned. We have set up a commission of inquiry into his activities and reports about him always find a way in the national discourse.

Recently, some audios of him supposedly having a discussion with some of his lieutenants in the country were leaked to the media and there seems to be a frenzy about him once again. It is like a buzz, everyone is talking about him almost all the time.

This has become a distraction which we cannot afford as we have a nation to rebuild. So, instead of wasting our precious time discussing what he may or may not have done – or may or may not be planning – we will be better served to focus on our almost broken economy and damaged civil service sector.

True, we have to investigate – and prosecute if necessary – but we needn’t spend every waking moment talking about him. The people still loyal to him and are still in our midst will succeed if we succumb to talking about their leader all the time. It is high time we forgot about him and focused on building the nation.

Despite his riddance by Gambians in the 2016 Presidential election, the former President Yahya Jammeh in a leaked audio gives the impression that he will again in a lifetime rule The Gambia.

In a conversation with leaders of the Alliance for Patriotic, Orientation and Construction (APRC), he said that nobody betrays him and then lives in happiness forever.

Jammeh spoke about series of issues including the order of dismissal of self-proclaimed APRC leader M.A. Bah and the recollection of 10,000 US dollars he gave to Ex-mayor Yankuba Colley.

This audio conversation which went viral trending on the social media is believed to be leaked by the APRC bigwigs themselves, proving long speculation of disunity within the party. However, political observers believe that the leakage of the audios will make Jammeh lose confidence in people he trusts most in The Gambia.

One of the things he spoke about was his determination of coming back to The Gambia, although he made no mention of how he would make that comeback.

He further said: “By Allah, everything I promised to Gambians will happen. When it is time for me to come back to The Gambia, no one can do anything about it. No human or Jinn can stop it from happening.”

“I am working on something and by the grace of Allah, it will be good,” Jammeh said in a leaked audio. He said he refused to respond to allegations that emanate from The Gambia claiming that if he speaks the whole world will shun the new government.

“I haven’t done what I am supposed to do yet. All that they are saying, if I were someone else, I will talk and the whole world will turn against them, but I am not supposed to talk so I will not talk. That is why I only talk to you people (APRC executives).”

Jammeh was also heard advising his party officials to avoid engaging in internal arguments.

Meanwhile, according to The Standard, the party deputy leader Ousman Rambo Jatta said he was not in position to comment as his party was meeting over the matter.
