The Council has already paid D500,000 to the alkalolu of the municipality as another part payment of their commission. Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the council’s chambers, Lamin N. Dibba, minister of Lands and Regional Governments said that they would use digital technology to make the Lands Ministry very close to councils to ensure ease of revenue collection. Minister Dibba urged every member of the council to give support to the ministry, saying its work benefits all Gambians. He assured that the government will give area councils the support they have never enjoyed, noting that President Barrow is interested in knowing what is happening in all the councils. Bakary Jammeh, chairman, interim management committee disclosed they were appointed on Jan. 12, but there was no proper handing over from the former mayor, making their work a bit difficult. He said that they had paid the alkalolu’s commission that had remained unpaid for over 3 years, adding that the role of the alkalolu as traditional and community leaders is clearly stipulated in the Local Government Act 2002. Ebrima Cham, director general of GAMWORKS, said that six subprojects with a value of more than 85 million dalasis have been identified by KMC for implementation, adding that five of the subprojects, which include Latrikunda Sabiji Market, Private Ward at Bundung Hospital and Gilifitty Road among others are those identified. Pa Kalifa Sanyang, CEO KMC said those are projects that are very much connected within the communities and he declared that as a council, they would involve the communities 100%.
