CONFUSION IN THE SELECTION OF NATIONAL ASSEMBLY CANDIDATES

Citizens who are interested in becoming National Assembly candidates are becoming more confused as the coalition remains silent on who could become Coalition candidate and under what umbrella he or she should stand.
There are seven parties and one independent aspirant in the Coalition plus two Independent National Assembly members.
The party stakeholders and the Independent aspirant have taken posts in the executive. Only the PDOIS has been informing its supporters that its executive members will be participating in the national assembly elections.
The Coalition must understand that the legislature is as important as the executive and they should not wait until the last minute and start rushing.
If they do so many people who are not affiliated to political parties may seize the ground only to cause more confusion to the electorate when Coalition candidates appear. The people need to know who to vote for and under what ticket at least no later than the end of this week. After the 18 February 2017 the country should gear up for elections. |

These are unprecedent times. What country has gone through a virtual shut down in the world like Gambia did for 6 weeks. So, yes the unanticipated delay has caused a vaccum however the NAMS who voted for the prosponent of Barrow's inaugration needed to be sacked. By elections be held for those seats. Those who obstained or were absent should take up their seats in the National Assembly. |

Very accurate article from foroyaa,however it is not at all surprising to me that many candidates are very concerned as to what they should say as the President is new and many facets of Gambian culture have changed in the twinkling of an eye unlike most previously established political systems that take years to discuss and talk about before any implementation takes place.
The candidates "slowness" is because the new system is such a change from the ways of the past that the prospective candidates feel that they must take all the time they can so "mistakes" made now will not have to be "fixed" in the future.
WORLD politics have been violently shaken up recently.
Will anyone bother to join in this topic and express their thoughts?.....NO!!!!.
