Considering the reports over battle tanks rolling in and so on, does anyone know whether it is safe for ordinary people who fled to Senegal to return to The Gambia now or shoud they await?

I know a family that travelled to the rural areas in the Gambia, they had to leave most of their belongings in the compound in Serekunda. Hopefully their things are still there when they come back.

UK: Foreign travel advice
Latest update:
Summary - the Foreign and Commonwealth Office no longer advise against travel to The Gambia; the situation has stabilised and the possibility of a military intervention is no longer likely

Kiwi, my friends have returned from Senegal and Guinea Bissau and it seems that children are already going back to school. I am still angry that I had little choice but to leave before my time in TG was up. I would have stayed had it not been for the fact that later Thomas Cook flights were cancelled so I had no idea when return flights would start. It looks like TC flights from UK may start again on Feb 1st. Lets hope so as the Gambian economy needs a boost right now.

Kiwi, people are returning back both from the provinces and Senegal.
