But they are Gambians who have betrayed everything that represents the Gambia. Just because one is a president and the ruling party gives no one any right to abuse our constitution and destroy our sovereignty. Just because you are the government gives you no right and authority to violate the rights of citizens, plunder public wealth and destroy the lives of citizens. This is not what is in our constitution. This is not the reason why Edward Francis Small, Sir Dawda Jawara, PS Njie, Ibrahim Garba Jahumpa and Rev. JC Faye and the many leaders of our nation fought for independence. They did not kick out the British so that one day a man called Yaya Jammeh and his APRC party would come only to torment their fellow Gambians as if we are cattle and goats. Any Gambia who is a legitimate son and daughter of the Gambia must be honest to oneself that indeed Yaya Jammeh and APRC have betrayed every rule in our constitution. They have betrayed every fiber in our sovereignty. They have betrayed every value in our culture. They have betrayed every principle in our religions. Where our people gave them support and cooperation, they paid us back with painful slaps and insults. Where our people gave them peace, they paid us back with violence and impunity. Where our people gave them respect, they paid us back with rudeness and indecency. We know the Gambia as one big family but Yaya Jammeh and APRC have done everything they could to create tribalism and religious intolerance among our people. For 22 years, it was Yaya Jammeh who has kept on attacking Gambians even though we all welcomed him with open arms on 22 July 1994. How many of our innocent people have been unlawfully sacked from their jobs after serving the country for 30 years? How many Gambians have been wrongfully arrested and detained for many weeks and months without trial? How many Gambians have disappeared without trace? How many Gambian lives have perished just like that? How many Gambians have their properties forcefully taken away from them? How many businesses have Yaya Jammeh closed down without any legal basis? Is this democracy? Is this patriotism and re-orientation and reconstruction? Should Yaya Jammeh do this to us just because he built UTG or GRTS or a hospital in Bwiam or Farafeni? After all, is it not our money, which built these public infrastructures? So why therefore should Yaya Jammeh spend 22 years insulting our people and our culture and our religions and our elders and our women? Which provision in the Constitution or the Holy Quran or the Holy Bible gave him such a power? Indeed even the British Governor Sir Charles McCarthy did not treat our people in this way in 1928. Why should Yaya Jammeh therefore do this to Gambians, and yet you have some Gambians still claim he is a good leader? Very sad. As a small boy growing up in the Gambia, I recall how we are nurtured to respect elders, to fear God and to speak the truth and be honest. Our home training tells us to revere imams and priests and to shun shamelessness but to be honourable and dignified and work hard. In times of sorrow or joy, we join each other to share, to console and celebrate each other. When it was Christmas or Easter or New Year we join our Christian families to celebrate. When it was Tabaski or Koriteh they also join their Muslim families to celebrate. We used to observe Tabaski or Koriteh on 2 or 3 different days around the country. No problem. This was the Gambia I knew. The Gambia I knew was called the Smiling Coast of Africa. It was called the Gambia No Problem. It was a Gambia when there was news of murder we get scared and shocked. It was a Gambia in which we did not even notice if there were the police because we hardly go to the station. It was a Gambia in which there was respect among people even when they belong to different tribes and religions. Despite the intrigues and frictions that could happen between human beings, yet that Gambia and Gambians had faith and upheld sacred values. Today, after 22 years Yaya Jammeh has killed that Gambia. No one knows the other person. No one cares about the other person. Everyone is seeking to eat the other person. We have become aliens to each other and enemies onto ourselves. Indeed Yaya is a curse! As we usher in a New Gambia, I wish to call on all Gambians to calm down and maintain peace and follow the law. Let us remain the One Big Family Nation called the Gambia. We need to bring back that Gambia that our fathers and mothers built and make it greater. It is said that the harder the battle, the sweeter the victory. Therefore in these dying moments of the APRC Tyranny, we will see so many discomforting and violent actions by the regime. They will arrest and torture and kill. They will close down radio stations and insult our people. They will use our state institutions to kill our verdict. But I can tell you that God is on the side of the people and truth. Hence Yaya Jammeh and APRC are finished and they shall never rise up again in the Republic of the Gambia. Hala Gasi! Let me say this unfortunate thing. There are reports of some people buying cutlasses with the intention to harm innocent people. Let those people know that such acts are international crimes and one will take personal responsibility. The fight in the Gambia is not between Muslims and Christians. It is not between the Mandinka and the Wolof. It is not between the Jola and the Fula. It is not between the Aku and the Serer. It is not between the Manjago and the Karoninka. The fight in the Gambia is about constitutionality and sovereignty. The fight is about one man called Yaya Jammeh against the rest of the Gambia because he wants to trample upon our constitution and sovereignty. This is the issue. No one should listen to Yaya Jammeh to confuse you that we have a tribal issue. Yaya Jammeh is not a Jola president just as Jawara was not a Mandinka president and certainly Adama Barrow is not a Mandinka/Fula President. They are all Gambians. Period. Therefore if anyone allows Yaya Jammeh to confuse you to kill your fellow citizens, rest assured that you shall face justice. Therefore let no one despair despite the very painful and scary happenings. This is bound to happen. But remember that since December 1, we have killed the Monster. These last pangs of the Monster should not scare us. God is with us. Our Brother and Sister Senegal is with us. ECOWAS is with us. AU is with us. EU is with us. UN is with us. The world is with us.
