Another peaceful day in the Gambia. Yesterday was of course only a beginning, many obstacles are left, many problems are yet to be solved and Yahya Jammeh is still there.
Anyway, what I experienced at the coalition's headquarter yesterday was an impressiv professional control and organisation, even minutes after the victory was declared.
And the same when I came back a few hours later, just before Adama Barrow, Isatou Touray and the rest of the leaders were heading towards State House.
But there is one important topic that cannot be stressed enough: A lagre number of Gambias were scared yesterday and they are still scared today. They voted for Jammeh, and now they fear retaliation.
Hopefully the coalition will be able to calm down those who are scared, and warn followers of the coalition against any form of retaliation that is not grounded in law.
Carrying out Jammeh's vile orders might be unlawful, and can be prosecuted.
Voting for Jammeh is democracy.
There is also quite a lot of tribalism among people, particulary between mandinkas and all the other ethnic groups - both ways. This is also something that has to be adressed, and kept in mind if the Third Republic is going to be peaceful.
