From: US Embassy Facebook, Banjul The Point: Friday, June 10, 2016
The Embassy of the United States of America in Banjul has closed to non-essential services since Thursday 9 June 2016, because “The Gambia Government has unexpectedly withdrawn police protection”.
“The embassy will continue to closely monitor the situation, and will keep you informed as events unfold,” said a statement by the US Embassy in Banjul.

The apparent reason for the closure was the withdrawal of security for the Embassy. This security whatever it was ,had presumably been provided by the Gambian government.
