Closure of Libyan Embassy Confirmed

Following reports that the Libyan Embassy in the Gambia has been shut down as the host nation is yet to determine which of the Mr. Ibrahim, Libyan Chargee d’ Afffairestwo rival governments is legitimate, it is now confirmed that its office at Fajara is closed and under police guard.
It was reported that the Gambia Government ordered the embassy to be shut down on Tuesday, 9 June, 2015
When this reporter visited the place yesterday, Wednesday, 10 June, he saw a notice (written paper( pasted on the wall with the inscriptions “The Embassy regrets to announce to all staffs and visitors that the Libyan Embassy is shut down on the 9th June 2015 until further notice”.
There were three uniformed Police Intervention Unit (PIU) personnel posted at the gate at the time when this reporter went there.
Earlier, when the Permanent Secretary 2 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was contacted to confirm the veracity of the issue, he told Foroyaa that they have nothing to comment on it.
It could be recalled that on 25th August 2014, the then Libyan Charge d’ Affaires, H.E. Ibrahim, presented 13 tractors to the Government of The Gambia and which were received by the then Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Owens. The officials also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the bilateral ties between their two countries.
