These three men were probably jealous & short of money so they thought.......... hmmmmm a bank that's were they keep money......... I havn't got any why don't they give me their money ?,they have lots, their thoughts and subsequent actions were not good, the authorities dealt with this MONEY problem at once, the men with bad thoughts and actions were arrested, and will doubtless have their day in court where their legal representatives will carry out their work to the best of their ability.

I wonder in the light of the facts reported by the D.O. if the subsequent court hearings will be prolonged by lengthy legal argument?

The Bank will be happy to get their MONEY back and MAY (?) consider a reward to show their gratitude.

Robbery at GTBank
Africa » Gambia
Monday, September 08, 2014

The community of Bakau Newtown was on Friday afternoon stunned when three men broke into the Guaranty Trust Bank branch there and took away about four hundred thousand Dalasis (D0.4M).

Eyewitnesses told the Daily Observer that the incident happened immediately after the Friday congregational prayer was observed. Sources said the trio, who had their faces masked, and armed with pistol (s) arrived in a taxi and quickly forced their way into the bank.

The men, all believed to be Gambians, were later apprehended thanks to the swift response of the personnel of the Gambia Police Force. The suspects are currently under police custody helping in the investigation. Meanwhile, security sources told this paper that the Gambia Police Force and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are jointly investigating the matter.

Efforts to reach GTBank for comments on this rare incident proved futile. The Daily Observer however sounded the views of some concerned Gambians about this apparent rare incident.

“It is rather too sad and unfortunate that such a crime rears its ugly head in the country. This is really unheard of and certainly it has no place in our country. This is a country of peace where everyone and every business is protected and I am sure the security forces would not allow anyone to undermine that reputation. The fact that the police responded swiftly is a pointer that they are ready to confront any crime,” a concerned Gambian who asked not to be mentioned stated.

Another, who also asked not to be mentioned, added: “I just want to state that these robbers are very unintelligent and in fact I don’t think they are really professionals looking at the nature of their operation. How could anyone attack a bank at such a strategic location at that time of the day and yet expect to be successful? With the response of the police, I think others who may plan to do a similar thing have got the message that they too stand to be unsuccessful as these people because our security is on the high alert, and won’t allow the admirable peace and stability that the country is known for to be tarnished by a few people”.

Police recover D390,000 in GT Bank armed robbery case

The Point: Published on Friday, September 12, 2014

Police have recovered D390,000 from the armed robber involved in the GT Bank Bakau Branch robbery on 5 September 2014, which reportedly took place at around 14:30 pm.

Ansumana Jarju, a 27-year-old Gambian resident in Kerr Seringe, who was identified as the principal suspect by the police, allegedly forced the bank tellers at gunpoint to pack monies into a bag.

Police PRO ASP David Kujabi, who briefed the media at the Kairaba police station yesterday, said Jarju went away with D410,120.

Alfusainey Jatta, a 32-year-old Gambian resident in Bakau Cape Point, was identified as the second suspect.

Kujabi said Alfusainey Jatta served as driver in a getaway Mercedes Benz taxi, which broke down around the Total filling station at Fajara.

When the robbery occurred, the bank authorities acted swiftly and informed the police.

They found Alfusainey, who took them to the residence of Jarju, from whom the police recovered D130, 000 and then D120, 000 subsequently.

Some of the materials Jarju used to carry out the robbery were also recovered, including white canvass boots, black mask, jean trousers and a white T shirt.

ASP David Kujabi described the incident as “a very rare occurrence in The Gambia.”
