This week there has been a firestorm on Freedom Radio following allegations that a sum of money, up to $300,000 has been solicited and collected and is being spent on behalf of "the Gambian Struggle" by a certain Gambian organization without the proper disclosure and transparency. Siga Jagne and PaSamba Jaw faced off with Editor Mbai over this matter on Freedom Radio while Banka Manneh was believed to appear on Fatou Show to address the same issue. I think Demba Baldeh of Gainako news may have called in on Freedom radio as well. What's going on folks?
These allegations are not new. Its been circulating for months if not years that some Gambian Diaspora groups have been soliciting funds from Europe and the Gulf states for personal aggrandizement.
I have no evidence to affirm or dispel the truth of these allegations, but it should be concerning to all wellmeaning Gambians. I have to be clear that I personally do not think that Freedom newspaper's allegations of corruption in "the Struggle" is not a sincere attempt to end the practice, if there were any. Rather it was a reaction to the effect that it was sidelined in benefitting from the booty.
The monies that are allegedly being squandered on maintaining the teeming bereaucracy of "the Struggle", globe trotting between EU capital cities and Dakar could perhaps be partly used to fund the opposition in the Gambia to enable them remove the APRC regime.
Any opinions or insider information about what's going on ?
