Thomas Cook Scandinavia is scheduled to land at the Banjul international airport later tonight, the maiden flight from Sweden has 365 passengers onboard an Airbus A330.

The maiden flight of the TUI Benilux from Belgium with one hundred and eighty-eight passengers on board last Friday landed at the Banjul International Airport.
The airbus Boeing 737-800 00-JAV, flew direct from Belgium to the destination. It landed at about 12:20pm local time. The tourists were received at the tarmac by The Gambia Tourism Board Director of Marketing, accompanied by officials of the tour operator among others.
Commenting on the arrival of the TUI Benilux maiden flight for the season, Adama Njie, Director of Marketing GTBoard said the season is still a promising one as two TUI Benilux flights – a maiden flight from Belgium and an ongoing flight from Holland landed in Banjul International Airport simultaneously on Friday.
With TUI frequency to The Gambia, he said TUI is one of the biggest tour operators in the world and “having two of the airbuses landed simultaneously in the destination from TUI brand indicates they have started successfully.”
The director of marketing added that his board is looking forward to more flights to the country as other maiden flights are on the list for this ongoing 2019 winter tourism season.
Concerning the previous delay tourists encountered at the immigration control during the arrival of Thomas Cook NE in the destination on Thursday, he assured the tour operators and visitors of smooth, good and quality service as everything is in control.
As a tourism destination, he said the Gambia tourism industry is very unique that all tourism stakeholders are working closely with tourism players because “tourism is classified as major sector of The Gambia economy.”
Since the collapse of Thomas Cook, he said the GTBoard and relevant authorities have come up with sustainability solution to entice more tourists/visitors and make The Gambia visa free which other countries in the region are now emulating the idea.
He added that government has given approval on the visa free based on the contribution of tourism to the GDP, foreign exchange of the country from tourism among other reasons.

European travel agents bringing tourists and other visitors to The Gambia have confirmed to The Point that despite Thomas Cook UK Plc and associated UK entities that recently entered compulsory liquidation, reservations to Banjul will continue and that is “not” affecting bookings as previously thought.
Several interesting locations in the country such as The Gambia National Museum, Abuko Nature Reserve, Kachikally Crocodile Pool and Bijilo Forest Park have been revealed and identified for European travelers and tourists to experience during their stay in The Gambia.
Certain towns and villages such as Banjul, Brufut Beach and Wassu were branded as “stunning places to see.” Serekunda Market and Tanji Fish Market are also recommended for tourists.
In a rare shift portraying the country as ‘‘dictatorship that could easily slide into an unpredictable event’’, the European Press is currently depicting the Gambia as a ‘‘good country to visit’, taking into consideration the current political dispensation.
Respected media organizations now consider the country as ‘‘friendly and attractive for visitors’’ and further highlighted many areas of interest to visitors.
The reputable and respectable Telegraph in the UK has revealed more than a dozen ‘‘reasons’’ for visiting The Gambia. It includes ‘‘cruising the river Gambia; bird watching at dawn; meet some island-whooping chimps.”
The paper also disclosed to tourists some personal areas that may be worth experiencing such as ‘‘tracing the grim history of the slave trade and visiting an art village.” Even ‘‘hanging out with village elders’’ was also cited to European tourists.
Notwithstanding, in some quarters, visitors are cautioned to be careful and suspicious during certain dealings or movements; however, the general view is optimistic and sanguine.
A ‘‘tourism advice’’ script seen by this correspondent also revealed that the Gambian Ministry of Tourism and Culture had ‘averted the sudden trauma against its industry during the event of Thomas Cook’s cessation.”
It further revealed that Hamat N.K. Bah, Gambian Minister of Tourism and Culture ‘‘handling of the incident was remarkable.” It added that an ‘‘inclusive meeting of all stakeholders both inside and outside of the country seeking remedial actions yielded a very positive results.”

"TAP Air Portugal, a Portuguese carrier on Sunday made it inaugural landing at the Banjul International Airport, with 141 tourists onboard.
The arrival of the airbus A320, marks the beginning of TAP Air Portugal regular operations offering flights thrice a week departing from Lisbon to Banjul."
