The Gambian Ministry of Health data base up to 8th June shows 5 active cases ,all currently in hospital. Cross border entries seem to be the major source of covid 19 cases.

This is the 82nd national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in The Gambia, on the 17th March 2020
• 1 new laboratory confirmed case of COVID-19 registered, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to 37
• The new case is the second documented COVID-19 related death since the first case was reported in the country
o In addition to his advanced age, he also had an underlying health condition – a known diabetic
• All but one of the 129 new laboratory test results received returned negative
• While 22 persons were newly taken into quarantine, 4 new people were
discharged after testing negative for COVID-19 upon completion of the mandatory quarantine period
o The newly quarantined were picked from different locations after it was learnt that
they have a recent travel history to a country with ongoing community transmission
• The country currently has 250 persons under quarantine; 12 active cases and 2
probable cases

ECOMIG SOLDIERS TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

Two out of the 6 new Covid-19 cases registered yesterday are Senegalese members of the Ecomig contingent.
The two soldiers, ages 47 and 46 respectively, entered The Gambia having returned from Senegal.

Both soldiers entered the country on 29th June through Amdalai Border Post.
According to the health ministry, among the six cases is a Senegalese, 49, who entered the country through Wassu. He was taken into quarantine on 29th June and tested positive two days later.

The remaining three are Gambians, ages 33, 27, 40, respectively, all retuned from Senegal. The 40-year-old sought medical attention at a hospital after his arrival and he was taken into quarantine. The other two arrived on 18th June and were taken into quarantine. Both were asymptomatic.

It is the country’s highest record of cases in a single day. The Gambia has now recorded 55 cases, with 26 active cases.

GAMBIAN NURSE DIES FROM COVID-19

The Gambia has registered its first documented Covid-19 case among healthcare workers after a senior nurse contracted the virus.
The nurse, who worked at the country’s main referral, EFSTH, passed away.

It is the country’s third documented Covid-19 death since the first case was registered in March. According to the health ministry, the senior nurse, 50, in addition to having had an underlying health condition, was a known diabetic and had also severe pneumonia-like symptoms. A sample was only collected from him after his demise on the 4th of July and a positive test result returned on 5th July.


Meanwhile, three other cases were confirmed which took the country’s total to 61. Two of them are Belgian couple, both 64, who arrived on SN Brussels flight in late June. The other one is a UN staff of Gambian nationality, 45, who arrived on a WFP-chartered flight from Liberia.

The country currently has 341 people in quarantine; 31 active and 8 probable cases.
The ministry said one of the challenges now is occurrence of COVID-19 among healthcare workers, while mentioning low staff morale due to the lack of incentives and the non-payment of allowances, frequent power outages in the PHEOC due to the reliance on NAWEC, as other stumbling

Breaking: The Gambia registers 14 new Covid-19 cases. 13 of the reported cases are said to be Gambians and the other case believed to be a Senegalese national. Amongst the imported cases, 10 are local transmissions and the other four imported. 8 of the fourteen individuals are reported to be health-workers, two housewives, one carpenter, and a businesswoman. The occupations of the other two are not specified. In the gender categorization, seven of the reported cases are female and the rest are male. As it stands Gambia’s total Covid-19 cases since March 17th 2020 totals 78.

19 new cases of the coronavirus have been recorded by the ministry of health bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 112.
6 of the newly confirmed cases are health care personnel (5 from EFSTH, 1 from MRCG).

The Gambia registers 24 new cases which is the highest reported in a single day, bringing to 170 total number of cases confirmed since March. About 30% of the cases were from the send-off party hosted by one infected patient!

Gambia confirms 46 new COVID 19 cases, 1 new death according to Ministry of Health.

61 new COVID-19 cases today.

Very scary! I wonder whether the health care system will be able to coop because many health care workers specially the laboratory technicians are reported to be infected. Can it be because health workers are using substandard protection masks rejected by europa due to the poor quality?

Vice President Touray tested Positive of Covid19

The Office of the President informs the public that Her Excellency, the Vice President, Dr. Isatou Touray has been tested positive of COVID-19. Consequently, the President, Adama Barrow will be on self-isolation with immediate effect for two weeks.

The public is reminded that the Coronavirus is real and exists in The Gambia. The public is advised to properly use face masks, maintain regular hand washing and social distancing in the fight against the virus. Stay at home and stay safe.

This is the 109th national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in The Gambia, on the 17th March 2020

- 1 new death registered, bringing to 9 the total number of documented COVID-19 related deaths in the country – a crude case-fatality ratio of 1.8%

- 95 new cases registered, the highest reported thus far in a single day, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to 498 cases
- A significant proportion of these resulted from the mass institutional tests conducted on staff of MRC and Sharab Medical Center
- Only a soupçon of the new cases were imported – the bulk of the cases were locally transmitted

- One COVID-19 patient, out of the 32 active cases being managed at MRC’s (Fajara) isolation center, has absconded

- No new recoveries recorded

- 434 laboratory test results received from MRCG and NPHL
- Of these, 333 tested negative (both new and repeats), 95 newly returned positive and 6 newly tested inconclusive or probable for COVID-19

- While 48 high-risk contacts were traced and isolated, daily follow-ups began for 39 low-risk contacts traced

-Whereas 11 persons were newly taken into quarantine, 20 were discharged

- The country currently has 529 people in quarantine, 414* active cases, 43 probable cases and a crude case-fatality ratio of 1.8%
