WHAT IS MORE DEADLY THAN CORONA VIRUS AND IS NOT MAKING HEADLINES AND TREATED WITH URGENCY? By Dembo Fatty
As the world grapples with the spread of the corona virus, extensive resources are being pumped into the fight against the disease. Media coverage is abound; from individual timelines on Facebook to the front pages of well established newspapers and breaking news stories of 24 hour TV stations.
I dont think there are many people in the world who have not heard of the virus by now. Have you wondered why this generosity or benevolence from the rich and powerful?
The answer is simple. The virus does not discriminate and so they are scared that the social strata perfectly designed and enforced does not protect them. The virus knows how to scale the strata and can not only climb, but fly.
The most ravaging virus that we are ignoring and killing millions around the world is HUNGER.
The FAO estimates that 25,000 PEOPLE DIE EVERY DAY BECAUSE OF HUNGER. That's about 9.1 million people every year.

According to the same FAO, about 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted each year equivalent to US$2.6 trillion and enough to feed the 815 million hungry people four times over yet 9.1 million people are watched to die because they are poor and hungry. Corona virus since its out break has not killed 25,000 since. Death is a reality in the poor communities and they have adjusted to the reality.

The attached photo needs no comment taken in Sudan showing a vulture just waiting for a child to die so it could eat the girl. It made headlines in the 90s.
Another "virus" is Malaria which according to UNICEF causes 300 million acute illnesses every year and 1 million deaths of which 90% are in sub saharan Africa and most deaths occur in children less than five years.

Diabetes is largely a poor man's disease due to bad food choices because it is these bad food choices that are available in poorer communities. High carbohydrate foods, fried foods high in cholesterol and soda drinks made cheaper makes these foods attractive to the poor living on the margins. Sadly Diabetes kills about 3.6 million annually and in the UNITED STATES diabetes kills more than the combined deaths of AIDS and breast cancer.
And you wonder why there is no cure? Its a poor man's "virus " and big pharma is raking in uncountable profits.
Need i write more? I am in no way trying to discount the corona virus but i am trying to bring to the fore, more deadly problems facing the world but because they affect the poor, they do not rise to the level of attention and emergency needed.
If you are a policy maker, get to work and defend the poor who have few people championing their causes. It looks like issues that discriminate and affect the poor most are just managed but not solved.
You are all wished a happy work week in advance.
